Far inland on Avalon, lies a misty gateway, guarded at all times by two druids to prevent the unwary from stepping across the borders into the kingdom of the Fay. Two stone monoliths stand proud, about four foot apart and behind them the landscape is inpenetrable mist in all directions. The air is cooler here and the sun never shines as it so often does on the rest of Avalon.
Viviane accompanied Arthur and his companions to the gate. She embraced her two sons, and then Morgan, and smiled at the rest of the company.
"Here is where I leave you, friends. I wish you joy of your travels. Trust yourselves to Morgan. I have faith in her. And gods bless you and keep you all safe."
She stood well back to watch them pass through the gate and then it was Morgan's turn to address the group.
"Friends, the time has come. The King and I will turn and step into the mists. Each of you will follow in turn. Sir Gawain and Sir Sagramore will come last, to make sure no-one is left behind. Now, gods bless you all, and I will see you in Tir Na Nog, the kingdom of the Fay!"
Morgan smiled at Arthur, whispered in his ear and the two of them stepped into the space between the monoliths. Seconds later they entered the mists and vanished completely. Gawain looked round at the others.
"Go on then!"

Dina offered Gawain a tiny smile.
"See you on the other side." She said more cheerily then she felt andstepped through.

The mist went on for perhaps half a minute. Dina could see only greyish-white mist ahead. She could not see behind her either. Her only choice was to move on.

Taliesin watched Dindrane go through, then cracked his neck, preparing to walk through. "Forward unto the brink," he said, stepping through the fog.

Galahad's face twitches at his mothers use of the word gods, but he says nothing, and follows Dagonet into the fog.

Merlin whistles a cheerful tune as he steps into the mists, the runes on his rowan-wood staff glowing an eerie green due to such close proximity to the magical realm.

Tristram grasped the hilt of his sword and nodded to Dinadan. He stepped through the Misty Gate and like those who had gone before him, disappeared into the mist.
