"Does it truly belong to any of us Sir?" She asked looking at him with deep concentration.

"It belongs to those of us who lived here before the Romans came," Gawain said firmly. "My father would certainly argue that Lothian and the Orkneys belong to him."

"And those before us curse the day that our ancesters came ashore." Dina said. She gave a small sad smile

"Perhaps they curse your ancestors, Dina, but I believe my own ancestors have always lived in Lothian," Gawain said. "Ours are an old people and proud. Your father's lands border on Hadrian's Wall, don't they? Lothian is north of the wall. The Romans built that to keep my father's people out of their conquered lands. They feared us even then."

"Then by rights you should hate my ancetors and our family." Dina replied, she gave a gentle smile to show that she didnt mean what she said. "I can see why they feared you, if all are like yourself there."

"You flatter me," he said with a grin. "But unlike you, I like it. We are a fearsome people, it's true. My ancestors used to go naked into battle, painted with woad. Did you know that? They called many of them beserkers because they had no fear of pain or death."

"Perhaps I would," Morgan said with a laugh. "But try not to think too highly of yourself, Taliesin. That might be your downfall." More laughter from Taliesin, followed by "A bard? Full of himself? Inconceivable!"

Morgan laughed as well.
"Fair enough, but you know what hubris is, don't you?"

"Oh, alright," Gawain said. "But I hope I may have the honour of wearing your favour some day." //////// "It's very beautiful," Arthur said. "But it doesn't seem real. You and Morgan seem different too. It's very strange. I can see how men get stuck in here." Then Sagramore ran up to them. "Sir Dagonet has disappeared. I was on rearguard, counting our number, and there's one less of us." Arthur looked at Merlin in confusion. "But...Viviane and Morgan told everyone to stay together. What do we do, Merlin?" Merlin grinned paternally at Arthur's amazement in the Fay. He was about to reply when the young ward Sir Sagramore interrupted them with the bad news. Merlin groaned, but quickly replaced his frustrated expression with one of calm. It would do no good to worry the others. "I'll go after the fool. I know these lands well and am familiar with its traps. Morgan can lead you all to the Faerie Castle. I will catch up as soon as I can with Dagonet in tow." he replied confidently.

Morgan laughed as well. "Fair enough, but you know what hubris is, don't you?" "I do not know the meaning of the word," Taliesin said OOC: He really doesn't.

Arthur hesitated.
"Are you sure, Merlin? Do you not want someone to keep you company? Is it safe here?"
/////////
Morgan smiled.
"It's an excess of pride that leads to a person's downfall because he has angered the gods," she said.

Merlin gave a wizened smile.
"I traveled these lands on my own many times as a young lad, but if it will ease your mind I'll take the company."

"Then take Sir Sagramore," Arthur urged. "A man who can wield a sword is always useful in situations like this."
"I'll gladly go," Sagramore added. "We can't risk anything happening to the famous Merlin."

"It seems extremely foolish, I know, but it put fear into the hearts of their enemies, as it was meant to do. If they died, well, they died fighting. I'd rather do that than die old and sick."
