Arthur and his travelling companions enter Cambernic. They first travelled through Listeneise and were admitted to Gore through Hadrian's Wall and then progressed east to Cambernic, the home of King Rion.

Tristram rode just behind Arthur. He glanced at his traveling companions with some apprehension. Traveling with so few to the kingdom of a man who, from what he remembered had not yet acknowledged Arthur as High King might well be fraught with danger. They would need to be careful.

Dinadan, just as aware of the potential dangers as Tristram, did not let his worries affect his behavior. He rode along as merry as ever, cracking amusing jokes to ease any tension.

Arthur turned to grin at the Cornish knights. He seemed in a strangely good humour today.
"So, my friends, have any of you besides Gawain ever heard anything of Cambernic?"
He waved to the usually garrulous Gawain to hold his tongue.

"No, I haven't heard much at all about Cambernic, really." Dinadan replied.

"Pity. It looks like such wild country. I imagine there will be wild beasts here. I should like to see an aurochs," Arthur said. "Gawain told me once there are aurochs in the north."

"Really?" Dinadan asked, amazed. "I should like to see one as well."

"I'll wager we do," Arthur replied cheerfully. "We could take the meat for food and the skin for a cloak. That would be something to show the ladies at Camelot."
Gawain spurred up and said "You're probably in luck, my king., Sir Dinadan. They say King Rion eats a whole aurochs for supper, aye, and with other things too. One of my father's men claimed to see him drink a whole keg of ale in a minute."

Dinadan shrugged. "I could drink a whole keg of ale in a minute too. It probably wouldn't end well though."

"Well that's the difference, Rion is a giant so it's no trouble for him. He'd require a couple of wagons filled with kegs before he got drunk, I'd wager," Gawain laughed.

"He must be popular with the winesellers." Dinadan grinned.

"I doubt it," Gawain said. "Not every king would pay for wine if he can get what he wishes through threats. From what I hear, Rion is quite the tyrant."

"And we are riding straight for him." Dina said quietly, speaking for the first time since dropping Rowena at her fathers.

"Tyrants are dangerous enough without their heads in the clouds. We must tread carefully my friends." Merlin mused from his saddle.

"But we will," Arthur said. "But if he does have one of the objects we seek - and the Queen of the Fay believes he does - we have no choice but to take it from him. A holy relic in the hands of a giant. It can't be borne."
Gawain said "We may have to fight him. Rion is known for his love of violence."
"Then we will fight him and we will win," Arthur said confidently. "Fear not, Dina, nor you Merlin. I will not allow us to lose."
