Fortunately the damage isn't great and he manages to repair it, but he sees some wide-eyed children watching him nervously.

Ironside howls in pain and rage as his sword hand is taken from him. When he looks up from the healed stump, his eyes are dark and full of cold fury.
"Best you two leave now." he says through clenched teeth. "Before I reach down that beast's throat and tear my hand free from its gullet."

After that is done, Urias limps towards the forest with his Bear following him. After he disappears into the forest, the rock surrounding Hallewes and Ironside's remaining limbs falls apart releasing them. After the rock falls away, Ironside can see his old hand laying still on the ground not eaten.

Bearic backs away at Ironside's expression. Urias knows that Ironside means it. He knows he needs to get away, fast.

Hallewes went to Ironside's side and picked up the hand.
"So a rug?" She asked lightly though her eyes burned with darkness.

Ironside ignored Hallewes' jest, just staring blankly at the stump where his hand had once been. After some time he got to his feet and picked up his red steel greatsword. The weight felt clumsy and unfamiliar in his left hand.
He had carried that blade across seas and continents, wielded it in countless wars and battles, and been a master at his craft. Now it was just a useless lump of steel, and he half the man he was.
The red knight tossed the greatsword in the hole the old man had drowned in. It was as good a resting place as any. He took up his seax from the ground, the only weapon left in his possession he could wield.
"I require a long sword now and know where a worthy one can be found." he said in a hollow voice, feeling lost for the first time since Vortigen's defeat at the hands of Uther.

"And we will find it." Hallewes said. "And you will regain your brilliance as a fighter, and we will find that bear one day..."
