She glanced over at her most loyal and oldest friend.
"It will mean that you are left here alone as I will take Ironside with me."

"I will be safe," he said. "I can bar the gates and I have enough skill to protect myself."
He paused, looking worriedly at her.
"You could always hire more men to safeguard the tower if you are worried."

"I am not worried Bedaint. I know that you will hold it. Tell me, was our Lord ever called like this?"

"Rarely. It happened a time or two but he never liked to speak of it. Our master confided in me less than you do. But he was never in a good mood when he returned from Camelot. He hated the Court and everything it represented."

Hallewes looked troubled a moment.
"Dont you ever think that he made our lives harder then he needed to?" She asked with a hint of humour in her voice. "Will you prepare things, it is not far so Ironside and I will not be gone long."

"I will," he said. "Our master liked things a certain way, my lady, and he took it badly when he didn't get what he wanted. That is the way of men like him, and I daresay women too. Sorcery grants such power that it is hard to be humble and accepting of a fate that you don't wish for."

"You are proberly right." Hallewes admitted. She moved to the chair again. "Will you bring me a bowl of water Bedaint. And if you see Ironside before I will you send him here?"

"I will, I swear it," he replied. "One moment."
He went away for a few minutes and returned with a bowl of water which he placed before Hallewes with a bow.

Sir Ironside enters the stronghold at Cerden, just returned from his regular visit to the village in its shadow. He had found that such visits reminded the townsfolk of the sorceress they owed their allegiance to and kept them in line. It also allowed Ironside to catch up with the latest going-ons of the realm, find a peasant girl to please him, or have a drink at the local tavern... which always seemed to be on the house.
He is munching on a ripe red apple, which had also been free of charge, that is the same shade as his crimson armor. He approaches Hallewes and looks her up and down with a lusty twinkle in his eyes, before greeting her with a short bow.
"Things are well in the village, my lady. The elders assure me that the monthly tribute will be prepared on time.", he said with a smirk that stretched tight the scar running through his left eye.

Hallewes was staring at te bowl of water that Bedaint had brought her.
"Good" She replied without looking at Ironside. "I will inform Bedaint. You and I are going away for a short while."

"You plan on telling me where? You know how I hate surprises." he asked gruffly, his curiosity piqued.

Hallewes didn't answer for a few moments, then she took her eyes from the still water and pushed it away.
"We are going to Camelot." She said. "You are to mix with the other knights there and learn what you can from them."

"Knights? The whole lot of them are children that have never wet their swords, let alone their cocks. All of them serving a king that should still be sucking his mother's teat! You want me to put on a smile and socialize with such?" ,he spat in disgust, "I'd sooner slit the throats of the prancing fools."

"Nevertheless it is always best to know the mind of those you wish to destroy so it is easier to attack what they love." Hallewes said easily. "I would like nothing better then letting you loose on those that brought death to my hall but I too must play a part in this excursion that we are undertaking."

"Very well, my lady." Ironside replied reluctantly. "Perhaps one the the knaves will give me the excuse I desire. If not, perhaps the fertility rite will give me the opportunity to draw some blood from their women." he added with his sadistic smirk.
