Yay, we have 10 members. I think that will be enough people to get started once I do the admin stuff I need to do, so feel free to start thinking about your profiles when you can.

Hey all, it's Symon. Hey gang, it's Geirrin. I'm currently looking over list of chars, should decide by end of day. As I mentioned I've only read Bernard Cornwell's trilogy on Arthur so I don't have a lot to go on. If anyone has any useful links please post them. In regard to Malory's work (Le Morte D'Arthur), the Wikipedia article is a decent overview. These expanded summaries are a bit better in regard to detail though.www.arthurian-legend.com/summary-mort-darthur-00.php

How did the system make sure that characters weren't either all extremes or all middle of the road? I think it would require each character to have a mix of some extreme traits and some more average . Only one of the 13 pairs of character traits could be 16. If you were a knight, it was compulsory to have a Valorous trait of at least 15, but that could also be your one trait of 16. The rest you designed your character how you wanted it to be. For example, King Mark might look something like this.... Chaste 8 / 12 Lustful Energetic 10 / 10 Lazy Forgiving 4 / 16 Vengeful Generous 7/ 13 Selfish Honest 5 / 15 Deceitful Just 6 / 14 Arbitrary Merciful 6 / 14 Cruel Modest 6 / 14 Proud Pious 7 / 13 Worldly Prudent 13 / 7 Reckless Temperate 12 / 8 Indulgent Trusting 5 / 15 Suspicious Valorous 15 / 5 Cowardly Basically sometimes your character would be influenced by his traits and act in a certain way way even if the player didn't want that to happen. So when Rp'ing you'd receive a check for everytime you were tested in a certain way and passed. So a a particular time (say in December), when the snows set in and activity slows down, the admin would roll once for every "check" achieved in the past twelve game months. If the number rolled was greater than the current value then the character learned from experience and added one point to the value. So if Mark for example was merciful, he would receive a check which would be rolled at the end of the year. If he rolled above then his Merciful / Cruel pairing would change to 7 /13.

Thanks, that's interesting, Mark. I will look at including a shorter version of this in the character creation process. Some of this is going to come across in the RP itself and I've learned that sometimes character don't turn out how you inintially intend them to be, but I think it would be good to use a variant of this system. Welcome Symon./lordsmith Thanks for posting the link, it should be useful. I'm using Malory in my dissertation so chapter descriptions will help me with that as well as being being a good reference point for us. Also welcome to Versipellis.

I will be out at lectures all day, returning early evening my time (early afternoon for the Americans, not sure what time that is for people further away). Post or PM me if you have any queries or suggestions.

Guys, once you've made your characters, feel free to post some relevant threads to help you get started if there's something Iyou want that I haven't included, such as the character's personal room. I will be available to chat in 2-3 hours.

Just to know.
What is everyone's take on how I did Mordred. I didn't want to go for the old cliche that his Character traditional goes for.
I was more thinking he's bad but not moustache twirling evil....

I liked it a lot. Especially since Merlin basically blocked him from being king when he put the sword in the stone. Should make for some fun interaction. Like the idea that Mordred had a chance to pull the sword out and failed. Really cool take on the character. Plus he fought with the Gauls and Germanic tribes so finally a knight Ironside might actually like.
