It seems logical but it's not chivalrous.

Better to be unchivalrous than cause the destruction of all your men. Though that is perhaps a bit dramatic.

Well, this is Arthur we're talking about. Morgan would probably agree with you!

Ha, exactly, it is appropriate for the character, but perhaps not the best example of common sense.

Killing prisoners can tend to make your enemies fight to the death.

And how would they know he didn't just die of his wounds when he was caught, or we killed him in the fighting... unless Sir Dinadan is a traitor?

I assume people would wonder why Arthur never seems to have any prisoners, when you get in a fight it doesn't always end with all your enemies killed.
Also it's rather unchivalrous and would alienate a lot of his knights.

Well if he lets them all go, then he won't have any prisoners either. Ask yourself what your enemies would do if they caught you? Would they let you then amble round the countryside perfectly fine?

In this instance he has decided to let the man go, but that may change later. We'll have to see.

Taking away his weapons removes any real threat, and there is a chance that he will spread word of Arthur's good character, of course he could just end up being a enemy again, but he's been defeated once, so it shouldn't prove overly difficult to defeat him again.
Hmm, it seems Morgan is about to discover Galahad doing the exact thing she told him not to do. Not good I suspect.

Oh yeah, because he will be just as easy for two guys to manhandle with an army behind him that have changed all their tactics because they know that we know what they are going to do.
Arthur's good character could be more of a hindrance than a help if people know he will let them off willy nilly.
But as morgan says it's done, and I think it is the decision arthur would have made anyway, I just think, speaking objectively in a real life situation it would do more harm than good.
in other news, prepare to have your arse thoroughly reprimanded, baby brother.

Yes true enough, but a lot of things they did in those times were not necessarily logical.

I've been reading bits of Le Morte d'Arthur for my dissertation and I've been looking at a scene in which Arthur spares the life of Sir Accolon, who tried to murder him. He blames Accolon's lover, Morgan (of course) so clearly he is inclined to mercy. If I remember rightly he spared a lot of other people who were once his enemies, i.e. King Lot. Anyway, mercy is in keeping with his character here too. He's only 15 or so here and that means he lacks the experience of older men, as well as the ability to forsee consequences. To be honest, I think you guys may be overestimating the importance of a lowly bandit. He's not likely to actually reach one of the Saxon kings and thus be able to tell them about Arthur and co. That's if he even knows who they are. I don't believe they have named themselves to him. And yeah, Galahad may be in trouble!

I believe early I said I may be weighing this with too much importance, I just thought it would be a kinda interesting topic of conversation to get going. Usually OOC boards are full of junk, but not this one.
