He does close the door so that the bats cannot get to him.

They scream and his as the door closes. Urias realises that there are perhaps another three floors in the building but probably not more.

Urias puts his ear to the door to see if the bats are next to it or if they flew back to thier perches on the ceiling.

Urias can hear the bats moving about so it's likely they are not on their perches. At least not all of them.

Urias places his hands on the door and freezes it, he continues until he can transfer the cold to the room itself hopefully freezing the bats.

Urias manages to cast the spell, though initially he believes it's not going to work. The cold emanates from the room.

He continues the spell waiting until he is sure that the bats are either no longer alive or are sleeping due to the temperature in the room and he opens the door a sliver to check.

The bats are indeed asleep. A few are dead, entirely cased in ice. This room is a bedchamber. This room is a kind of antechamber to several smaller rooms. Each door as a tiny barred window and Urias can see skeletons of dead men chained to the wall. In the furthest room is a brazier and rusted implements. It seems to be a torture chamber. Clearly this is where the master of the house kept his prisoner. On one of the walls words are scored in the tongue of the Britains. Most of them are curses but one seems to be an incantation that Urias knows is supposed to cause plague and death. It is a rare spell that only a powerful sorceror may cast.

Urias turns toward the incantation on the wall, He tries to remember if there was a counter spell that he knows of before he turns away still thinking, and heads up to the next floor.

Urias remembers the counter incantation but he also knows that the sickness that plagues this land is darker and more serious than the counter incantation. It might alleviate the suffering of the land but it's unlikely to be the root cause. He may need to find the source.

Ther next floor is a bedchamber, a rotten four-poster with the remnants of purple hangings. Everything has an air of decayed luxury. Even the chamberpot is silver. There is another cup engraved with the eagle motif, yet more sorceror's books and a bronze mirror. The wizard's robes, in the Roman style, are in a slightly open chest. They stink of mothballs and rot. Mangy rats scurry out from the room as Urias opens the door. Bizarrely, there is something out of place lying on the bed. A woman's golden comb.

He takes the comb to look at it and puts it in one of his pockets so that he may examine it more closely later. He leaves the room and heads up the next flight of stairs.

As Urias climbs the stairs a sense of foreboding assails him. It is dark here, pitch black, and the stench of corruption is worse than ever. Urias almost chokes on it. He has to conjure a light to see by, but when he reaches the top of the stairs he sees a tall door, half again as tall as the other doors in the tower. It's marked with sorceror's symbols and seems to be locked.

Urias holds his light in front of him for a better look at the door, He attempts to unlock it by melting the lock again.
