Urias continues to look through the eyes of the bird trying to see or hear the thing, looking at the ground or on the canopy if the thing was capable of flight.

But the creature was still not withing sight. And then there was an anguished cry and when Urias looked down he saw that Bearic had fallen into a pit of some kind. The bear lay still, whimpering and in pain.

Urias flies down to look at the bear in the ground and to examine the hole that he fell into before trying to get the bear out.

The hole is deep, far too deep for Bearic to get out of by himself. Uriass could jump in if he wanted to but he would have to use magical means to get out. Bearic is clearly in pain.

Urias tries to ready a spell that would raise the ground of the hole to a point where BEaric would be able to jump out even in his weakened state. If the spell works Urias gets in and attempts to heal the bear and ease the pain as best he could.

Urias succeeds on both counts. The land rises to allow him to enter the pit and he is then able to heal Bearic's damaged paw enough so that he can put weight on it again.
*Thank you. We must be careful from now, .*

*I thought I told you to be careful before this as well. Urias tells the bear with a hint of an I told you so type attitude.
*I think we should continue, if that creature was going to attack he would have done so while we where busy.*

*Maybe we haven't seen it yet. And I was careful, it was a trap. There was a covering on the ground but it was thin and I fell through. Someone must live here. Or something.*

*Indeed, and they do not want people to travel through this forest.* Urias says looking around as he shapeshifts into a bird again, and continues to fly north this time beneath the canopy.

The stench gets stronger and the trees darker and older and more gnarled. Urias several times sees huge old trees crawling with maggots.
*I can smell the creature again* Bearic said.
He used his paw to indicate to the left.

Urias looks towards the left making sure not to fly into any low hanging branches and attempts to see if he can see the creature.

He has the sense of something large and very dangerous which he can see through a gap in the trees. A little closer and he will be able to see it properly.

Urias motions for Bearic to stay put for a second while he tries and gets a better look at the creature. He maintains what he expects to be a healthy distance from the beast.

The creature is a horse. Or rather, the corpses of one, with bits of flesh and skin hanging off. There are two huge sockets where its eyes used to be and great rents in the remaining parts of its skin. Bone shows through in many places. Two of its legs are pure bone, and much of its skull shows. The horse charges forward, directly at Bearic. Dagonet knows that the creature is called the Nucklavee.

Urias quickly readies the spell for any roots in the ground to come up to trip the dead horse and hopefully break its leg bones.
