"I would," he said. "It would be a pity to see so much work wasted. Just do not be reckless."

Hallewes gave a grim smile "thank you." she said to him, glad that he had said that.

The ghost floated forward and tried to put his hands on her shoulders. She felt an eerie, cold sensation as his fingers slipped through her.
"Take good care of yourself," the sorceror advised. "Yours will be a hard road and you must have strength and courage."

"I wonder who he is," the green woman murmured. "He is a ghost, but a powerful necromancer such as my father can make a man appear as real as if he were still alive." "I certainly hope so. We have no need for ghosts." Ironside replied ominously.

"What do you plan to do then?" The woman whispered. "Use them as soldiers?"

"If they can be called such, yes." Ironside replied, still in awe over the spectacle in front of him.

The ghostly man vanished gradually as they watched and then Mawr turned to Hallewes.
"So, my lady, are you determined to learn what I teach?"
The green woman whispered to Ironside "I like you and your lady. You are wicked and ambitious."

Seeing the sorcerer had stiffened her resolve
"If you will allow me." she answered

"I will," he said. "It will take long study and so I shall have to leave my home for the first time in fifty years to accompany you on your travels."
"More like a hundred years," his son interrupted from the corner. "It's got to be at least that."
Mawr glared at his son.
"Be that as it may, though I have made an extensive study of the subject, the kind of power you desire will require tools than simple study. You must go on a quest, Hallewes. A quest that will prove your worthiness to hold the power, and, furthermore, give you the tools you need."

"I am willing to do as you say, and I am sure that Sir Ironside would agree to accompany us too and stop any harm."

"Excellent. Have you ever heard of the Black Cauldron?"
Mawr seemed not to be at all interested in Ironside. His daughter, however, was very much interested and had wound her body around the knight's in ways that seemed unnatural.

'First a cowardly Saxon and now an old man, this group gets weaker by the day.' Ironside thought to himself, but did not dare say aloud.
"The last time I voiced my ambitions to a woman, it ended with a handprint on my face." Ironside said to the nymph as she wrapped herself around him. "I am happy I will not have to worry about that from you."
Though had his attention on the woman, the Red Knight paid mind to what the old sorcerer was saying. He had no problem with another quest, but Ironside had not given up 5 years of his life to simply see the inside of a castle. He was not leaving empty-handed. Certainly the dark wizard would have some boon worthy of a warrior.

The green woman smiled as she stroked her hand down his face.
"I have been known to treat men cruelly but never for being ambitious," she purred. "My people value the ambitious. Indeed, we find it most...erotic. It was my father's ambition which made him attractive to my mother. He was a young man then, and passing fair to look upon, but she is still attracted to him now, when he is old and not so handsome. Power is a wonderful aphrodisiac."
She paused every few works to plant delicate kisses over his face.

"Once a Long time ago." Hallewes answered "I was told that it was a myth."

"Yes, that is what is said about anything someone wishes to keep hidden, in the hope that everyone will give up looking for it," Mawr replied. "But it is not a myth. I believe I know where it may be found. It is said that if you put in the corpse of one dead man, a hundred will emerge from it overnight. Do that ten knights in a row, and you will have a thousand men. An army."
His smile was sinister.
"And dead men cannot be killed twice."
