"I understand that, but you can be the best without shooting fire. Why not become the best and then use fire afterwards, when there's no man alive who can shoot better than you."

"Nobody hates you," Gawain whispered soothingly. "How could they? What makes you think that?"

"It was my fault the boy got burnt and... I should have known better and they have so much happening here at the moment and I made it worse." Dina poured out. She cuddled closer to Gawain.

His warmth pressed agaist hers.
"He might have done it anyway and then it could have been worse, if you hadn't been present. You must know what boys are like left to themselves. He might have been even more careless. Sir Ector will not blame you. He's a good man and loyal to the king. And the king will not blame you either. We don't need to even tell him."

"Perhaps. Don't worry unless it happens. You're not going to be put on trial, I promise. I won't let any harm come to you," Gawain vowed. "And Arthur likes you, I know he does. He would know it was an accident."

"Dont say that you can never stop anything from happening." Dina said. She adjusted the way that she was sat so that she no longer spoke to his shoulder.

"I can stop harm coming to you," he said. "Though that might be harder if you are determined to continue with fire arrows. Even I cannot control the elements. Perhaps you ought to find one of the druids to help you. Then you could be sure that the fire will not get out of control?"

"Knights have to learn to deal with pain," Gawain said with a laugh. "It comes with the title, Dina. Truthfully, any boy who aims at knighthood is well used to pain by the time the sword taps him on the shoulder. We spend much of our time as boys bruised and even bleeding with all the training we do, and broken bones are not uncommon."

'How is this different' Dina thought.
"Well... I dont want you hurt and you dont want me hurt.... we should just give up and live in a cave." She said, an attempt at humour.

He laughed and kissed her cheek.
"I don't fancy living in a cave," he said. "At lkeast not for more than a few days. Here, why don''t we go inside and have a drink? You'll feel much better."

"I will then, but promise you won't sit out here alone," he said. "I don't want to leave you if you are miserable."
