"Wrongly? Hardly!"
Vortimer laughed.
"My father, Vortigern, should have been High King, not Uther Pendragon. Unlike them, he believed in allying with the invaders. That way will bring peace, not fighting them. My mother was a princess of the Anglo-Saxons. I bear their blood. In me the two races - Briton and Anglo-Saxons - will be forever united. And the land will be at peace. But if Arthur continues to fight, he and his ilk will be destroyed, as his father was before him."

"So you believe a true king would align himself with invaders against the rightful rulers of the land?" Galahad asked.

"A true king would do whatever it takes to ensure peace," Vortimer snapped. "My way will bring peace and prosperity to all.. Britons and Anglo-Saxons. The Pendragon way will bring death and destruction."

"Peace through war? I'm afraid your plan has flaws to it." Galahad informed him calmly.

"Tell that to my father and Uther Pendragon," Vortimer scoffed. "Both of them believed they were destined to be High King and both believed war was the only way to get it. If only Arthur and his fool allies would accept the Anglo-Saxons as friends and allies, we would not need to go to war."

"What manner of friend invades your lands in an unjustified attempt to claim them as their own?" Galahad demanded, beginning to anger.

Vortimer struck Galahad hard across the face.
"Mind your manners when you speak to the High King! You are as bad as the Pendragons and that fool Leodegrance. Even if he somehow manages to break the siege - which I very much doubt - he will never dare oppose me with both his daughters in my keeping."

"I'll be sure to keep that in mind when I speak to the actual high king." Galahad replied defiantly.

Vortimer struck him again. The ring on his finger cut Galahad's cheek open.
"Fool. I could demand you kneel and kiss my ring."
He showed Galahad the gold ring engraved with the cross, the face smeared with Galahad's own blood.

"You could, but it would get you nothing." Galahad replied.

"On the contrary. Imagine, if I were to have you brought before those of my court who remain here, and compelled you to kiss my ring, you, who are so clearly sworn to my foes. That would be a triumph for me, would it not?"
Vortimer leaned threateningly close, fist clenched to strike.

"I meant I would not kiss it." Galahad replied simply.

"We'll see about that," he snarled. "Strip him. I want him flogged."
The man with Vortimer reaches to pull off Galahad's tunic.

Galahad attempted to strike the jailer in the face as he tried to disrobe him.

The man reeled back as Galahad hit him. His curses tainted the air.
"You have spirit," Vortimer informed his prisoner. "A pity you won't serve me. I appreciate courage much better than the Pendragons."
