"Battle is not everything," the sorceror told him. "It counts for a great deal, I do not doubt it, but if you were a young woman about to face betrothal, would you not be more frightened by a man carrying a sword, or by one whose wives never survive the birthing bed?"

"I have rarely concerned myself with how women think. I fight men, not women or children...when I can help it." he said in a nonchalant manner.
"I do hope he is a better swordsman than bedfellow."

"It would seem so, though I am hardly qualified to judge swordsmen," the sorceror replied. "But surely you would be a better judge than I?"

"I suppose so." he answered, approaching the maester-at-arms.

The man turned and scowled at him.
"Who are you? You're not one of our men. I know them all."

"I'm a guest in the court of your king." the red knight replied gruffly. "I go by Sir Ironside."
"I was injured recently and could use some practice with my weak hand." he explained, holding up his stump.

The man looked at his stump with disinterest.
"I see. I can be ready in a moment. Have you tried to use your left hand at all?"

"I was trained in my youth to fight with either hand, but have used a greatsword for decades, so am out of practice. Put a long sword in my hand and we'll find out quick."

"Fine then. My name is BRan," he announced brusquely. "One moment."
He fetched a longsword which he handed to Ironside. It was, unsurprisingly, heavy, when the knight was used to using two hands.
"Feel the balance. Make a few practice strikes."

"You will need to build up the strength," Bran observed. "Fortunately a sword will do that for you. I will take up a shield and you may try to strike me, if you would like to?"

"Aye" Ironside grunted, readying himself for combat. Even without a hand he believed he was more than a match for most men.

After the fight, Ironside regains consciousness feeling groggy and bruised. He sees the face of his opponent as Bran kneels over him and extends a hand.
"Sorry about that. How do you feel?"
