Physical Description: Palomides is an exotic sight in Dumnonia, his features giving him away as obviously foreign. In all other ways, however, the Saracen embodies a classic knight: tall, fit, handsome, and clad in the mail one would expect of a European warrior.
Personal History: Sir Palomides rarely talks about his past, no doubt because because most of his victories won and glories earned in his early days came from warring with Christians. He tells people he was born in the Holy Land, the son of a high lord -- neither of which are true, strictly speaking, but there is no one around capable of contradicting the story.
What is true is that he was exiled from his homeland by his own people. He fell in love with the young wife of an influential Bey. They had three months of bliss before the infidelity was discovered and the Bey called for castration and execution. Only Palomides' history of courage, honor, and strength in battle saved him, and he was instead exiled, never to return on the pain of death.
Palomides reluctantly took up the role of a mercenary warrior, first for the Moors, then for half a dozen European kingdoms who discovered they did not mind having a heathen on their side so long as he fought as well as Palomides. Over time he became known as "Sir" Palomides, a title he embraced.
Sir Palomides could not have said what compelled him to come to Dumnonia, but when he did, he was granted a place in King Arthur's court personally protecting the king. Palomides could not say whether the king had heard of this Saracen knight who fought like a whirlwind, or whether he simply saw him as a curiosity he could boast about to other kings. Either way, Palomides has found that this strange new land interests him, and he intends to stay for some time.
