The Green Man burst into laughter as Hallewes announced her intentions.
"That is fortunate, pretty lady. I know Meldryn Mawr. He is my father."

"Your father?" Hallewes asked she was surprised. "I was not aware that he had a son."

"Why should you be?" The green man asked. "Do you know every detail of Meldryn Mawr's life? Are you a goddess, to presume so much?"

"I simply meant that when I was looking at how to find him there was no mention of a son." Hallewes replied.

"Few know of me," he said. "And that is to my father's advantage. If you came looking for my father you must know what he is. He has always feared to be found and thus he sets his children to watch over his island for intruders."
He paused and looked her over from head to foot, lingering on her chest.
"And what shall I do with you? Why should I let you visit my father?"

"Because I wish for the secrets that he knows to continue on in this word, it would be a shame for them to leave or become forgotten." She replied

"My father has sons and daughters both to guard his knowledge. Why would he give it to a mortal woman he has never met. You are young now but one day you will be an old woman and you will die."
The smile disappeared from his handsome face and his eyes filled with suspicion.
"You don't fool me, witch. You seek to use my father's knowledge for your own gain, do you not?"

"Partly" Hallewes admitted "I also have a thirst for knowledge and have travelled the world to find things that have been lost. What knowledge your father has would fill a gap in mine."

"I have no doubt that it would. But what price would you pay for my father's knowledge? There is always a price, for information,. An my father's knowledge is powerful and ancient. It comes from the gods themselves."

"What is the price that your father would want?" Hallewes answered. "For I cannot put a price on it without knowing what he would expect."

I don't presume to know my father's mind but he has given me the right to bring before me those I deem worthy of his attentions. So...."
He paused and flashed his white teeth at her.
"The price is to be paid to me. Does that sound agreeable?"

The green man smiled wickedly.
"You lay with me and give birth to my child. A child who will have immense power and skill in the magical arts. A child who is more than a mere mortal like yourself."

"And you will take the child?" Hallewes asked
