Mawr smiled.
"it is possible to raise the spirits of those already dead. Would it please you to see them beg your forgiveness?"

"There are a few that I would have do that if I could. Like the people that sent the knights to murder him."

He nodded solemnly. His robe moved slightly and she saw that he was bare-legged under the robe, apart from his sandals. His skin was marred with red blotches.
"Do you know who sent them? Surely not the boy Arthur? His father, Uther?"

"A peasant couple that appealed to the kingship I don't know who sent them from the castle but the couple are long dead now."

"I see. Well, would you like a taste of the power, Hallewes? Let us call up the spirits of the dead. But you may wish to eat and drink first. Your body needs sustenance."

Hallewes felt sure that all in the room would do nothing to harm her lest the child was harmed and accepted his offer of substance.
"my lord I have one question of you." she said "What you know was supposedly lost before, was there many that used to know it?"

"Once," he said. "Long ago. Before the Romans came the knowledge was passed from father to son, mother to daughter. It was never honoured as it should be but those who held the secrets knew how to keep the knowledge safe. But most who had the knowledge were killed by the Romans, who declared our knowledge a heresy and burned any written writings and crucified our people. But one man survived and bartered his soul to the fay in order that they would safeguard his knowledge and pass it to his successor. That man was my own ancestor."

Hallewes nodded as if she expected nothing less from the beginnings of the Christians in Britain
"Will you allow me to learn from you?"

"I will," he said.
The green man left her side to whisper in his father's ear. Meldryn Mawr frowned.
"My son tells me you had two male companions. Would you like to see what has become of them?"

"I have." Hallewes confirmed hesitantly "One is my protector. I would like to see them."

He got down off his tall white throne and beckoned to his son, who brought over a bowl of water from a nearby table. The sorceror waved his hand over it and the image of two men appeared. Ironside and Alfred. They carried Hallewes' unconscious body through a forest an d yet she could not deny that she was standing in the castle either.
"You are in an enchanted sleep." Mawr explained. "My son's doing. He wished to speak with you without your men being present. You will not wake unless I, or my son, or one of my other kin casts the counter spell."

Hallewes couldn't deny being unnerved by the scene
"how will I live if I am not in my body?" she asked

"You will be returned to your body, of course. But now it is as if you were in a dream. Your mind flies free when you sleep. There was a time when many sorcerors could do this at will. They could travel to far-flung places while their body remained still as if sleeping. It is an almost forgotten art now. Only the fay can do it. And I," Mawr added. "My wife taught me. I am sure you have guessed by now that she is a child of the fay."

"Only by looking at your children." Hallewes said. "I wasnt aware until today that there was Fay outside of the Island that Lady Vivene guards, but that with other things has been proven wrong."

"That is why we keep our knowledge secret. We don't want everyone knowing the things we know," Mawr said smugly.. "I have set my daughter out to speak with your henchmen."
