"Please, do not harm Sir Ironside, he is a loyal companion of mine and has protected me for many of my travels."

"As I explained to your son, I met him on the way to you. He was a guide that stuck around. I do not know him well."

The old sorceror considered for a moment.
"Let him stay where he is then. His death gains me nothing but neither does his presence. ARe you ready to try speaking with the dead, girl?"

Hallewes nodded "I believe I am."

"Right. Remember, this is an advanced branch of sorcery and it will take much of your strength. So be prepared to be weak. Take a seat," he instructed.

Hallewes did as instructed. She stared at Meldryn silently

"Now clsoe your eyes. And think about who you want to see. Picture them as clearly as you can, think about the last time you saw them. I can summon the ghosts of people I have never met in life but you will lack that power. So choose someone you knew well. The visualisation helps. Think about how they speak and walk and anything else you can recall."

/// Ironside opened his eyes, the lustful excitement of the kiss replaced by disorientation and confusion regarding his new location.

Ironside was in a small chamber, black stone, the floor strewn with rushes. There were a few tapestries of hunting schemes and one of a green-skinned woman with a unicorn laying its head in her lap. The woman stood in front of him, smiling.
"Here we are. The Chateau Sans Retour, or Castle of No Return. My father's home. My mother's too, when she is not in her own lands. This is my own chamber."

Ironside looked at the tapestries with curious interest, but made no comment on them.
"And where is my lady? Was my bargain not to be taken to her?" he asked, mind returning to the matter at hand.

Her arm went to his shoulder and stroked it as she smiled sympathetically.
"It was, but we must be careful not to disturb her. If she is already speaking with my father there is great risk to yourself and her. We will go to my father's chamber and see if your lady is there, but we must do it quietly. Necromancy is the most dangerous of all the magical arts. It teaches how to raise the dead but it can kill too, and often kills the one who practices it. You wouldn't want to risk that, would you?"

"Of course not." he replied gruffly. "Lead the way then. Once I see that she is safe, we can discuss our other arrangements."

"Agreed. Let's go."
She led him through the castle and he was able to see that every wall was as dark as the room they had first been in. All the tapestries displayed scenes of hunting or war and sometimes the skulls of dead animals hung on the walls. Finally they came to another room and the green woman pushed open the door and whispered "Quiet."
As the door swung open, Ironside could see Hallewes sitting on a chair with a cloaked man standing in front of her. A tall young man with dark green hair and pale green skin lounged against the wall, hands crossed over his chest. A white throne sat behind the man in the cloak. Ironeside saw that it was fashioned of bone.

The Red Knight followed the nymph as quietly as he could through the black halls. He admired the violence-themed decour with approval. He felt he could get along with this dark sorcerer quite well.
He breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing Hallewes alive and well. A nod to his green guide sufficed to say he was content with what he saw.
