Arthur cantered towards them when he saw them coming. His face was alight with pleasure.
"My friends! What did you learn? And who is this man?"
He indicated the prisoner riding with Dinadan.

"A prisoner, your highness." Dinadan replied. "He claims there are hundreds of Saxons in the area."

Arthur swore, then looked abashed as he recalled Dina's presence.
"My apologies. Why are there Saxons here? Is it an invasion?"

"Of sorts." Dinadan replied. "You could question him yourself, if you wish, we only asked the most basic of questions. Gawain was injured and we decided it would be best to warn you of the Saxons as quickly as we could."

"Oh?"
Arthur turned an anxious expression on Gawain who shrugged and said "I'm fine."
"Thank you, Sir Dinadan. That's...helpful. Well, no, it's not, because I had hoped we wouldn't have to go to war yet, but at least we know they are here. We will have to ride to the next village and send a message to Sir Ector. Unless Merlin can find a way to get a message there faster. We must be near the Llogeyr border soon and that will be dangerous. Saxon territory," Arthur said with a grimace. "Perhaps we should all rest while I speak to the prisoner?"

"A little rest would not be amiss, your highness." Dinadan allowed. "Who knew that fighting would be so tiresome."

"Oh, did you fight?" Arthur asked.
"Aye, the prisoner had two companions. They are both dead," Gawain explained. "WEas it your first fight, Sir Dinadan?"

"I thought that he fought admirably." Dina said quietly. "You both did. And if Gawain didnt hear so well we would have ridden straight into them unawares and would have been hurt more I think."

Gawain smiled.
"Lothian is wilder country than this. I grew up having to be alert, or risk death, so it's no wonder I heard the Saxons before the others did."
"We are fortunate to have you with us as we travel further north, then," Arthur said. "This looks like a good place to rest. We'll surely see anyone who comes at us in sufficient time to defend ourselves. We'll stop there and I will speak with the prisoner, then we will move on within the hour."

Dinadan nodded and seated himself on the ground.

A short time later, they were ready to move off. Arthur had spoken to the prisoner and then he looked round at the group.
"My friends, I would ask, what are you opinions on what I should do with the prisoner? He has told me all he knows but I don't wish to take him with us."
"Kill him," Gawain said at once.

"He surrendered." Dinadan replied. "How can you even consider that a option?"

"He's our enemy," Gawain replied. "It was his own choice to invade our lands."
"No," Arthur said. "It was his masters'. Men like him do as they are ordered. We'll take his weapons and armour and set him free when we step into Lloegyr. What he does then is entirely up to him. Does that suit you, Sir Dinadan?"
