Dina managed a smile
"Please, dont tell anyone of this Arthur... And just pretend that I never said anything. I would hate for us to stop talking because you know."

"I'll say nothing," Arthur promised. "I am not cruel, Dina. And who knows what the future will bring. You will be happy, somehow, I just know it."

"Somewhen." She replied with a faint smile. She paused again. "How long until you have called the meeting?" She asked. "I cannot remember."

"Tomorrow morning, at nine of the clock. So we've all got a few hours to rest and dine and so forth. And wash," he said, with a flash of humour. "Charming though it is to see your hair dressed in leaves, I hardly think it befits the council chamber."

Dina gave a grin and looked down.

Dina looked back over her shoulder and grinned.
"You will." She said, then picked a tree and climbed out of his sight.

Gawain and Dina arrived in the garden. He led her to a secluded spot where a high hedge hid them from view.
"Dina," he said, then paused to look on her face for a long moment. "Did you know our royal fathers had spoken before we left on the quest?"

She shook her head
"I was not told." she said, then carefully looked away into the trees

"That's...unfortunate," Gawain said. "But never mind. It was at my insistence that they met. Our fathers have agreed that we may be married, so long as you are willing. Is there hope for me, Dina?"

Dina's eyes filled with tears suddenly knowing the conversation that she had had earlier.
She brushed them away almost angrily, knowing that she was more upset with her feelings in turmoil then anything else that had happened.
"Just let me have time Sir." She said softly.

"Our fathers agreed that we should wait until after the quest, but that might take years, and we're not questing now," Gawain said quietly. "But how much time do you need? I am not a patient man. I cannot wait forever."

"When you asked before I said no because I..." Dina stopped. She didnt know how to word what she wanted to say. "There was someone that I love for years before I met you, and when you came into my life you confused me because I wanted to be with you but the man I loved hadn't released me from the place I was trapped in and now he has and I don't want to hurt you by making you feel like..."
Dina stopped aware tht she hadn't worded what had happened that day at all well.

Gawain nodded, understandng. He wondered who the other man was, whether he was worthy of Dina's affection, whether he was a better man than Gawain or not.
"You don't want me to feel like I am second best, is that right?"

"Yes because your not and if I had met you first I wouldn't be so..." She paused looking for the word "Confused. But now I know that the man doesn't love me back and..."
