"Oh,. may I ask who that was?" She asked.

"Seren." Dinadan replied. "She spoke with me on the ride to Castle Sauvage."

"Ah, a sweet and sad girl," the druidess replied. "Hers is a hard road, sir. I hope you have given her the kindness she deserves."

"A hard road?" Dinadan seemed confused. "Why do you say that? Does she occupy some sort of challenging position within your community?"

"Not at all. She is a sweet child and true to our ways but she is not as powerful as Viviane in her younger days, nor does she hold office within our rank. No, I spoke of a personal tragedy," she sighed. "Not all who follow Arthur treat my people with kindness and respect, young sir."
The woman's face was sad and her voice heavy.

Dinadan still did not understand what the woman was speaking of. "So someone she knew was abused?"

"No," she said. "Sir, if I tell you the truth you must swear not to tell Seren you know of this. She would not thank me for it, and yet I believe you mean her only kindness."

"I swear I shall not tell her." Dinadan replied, intrigued.

"I will hold you to that," she warned. "It is an unholy and dangerous thing to break a vow. Be that as it may, the truth is that the dear girl was violated by one of Arthur's knights when all of you were away seeking the Thirteen Treasures."

"What!?" Dinadan exclaimed, shocked. "What became of this so-called knight?"

"Sentenced to death by Sir Ector's command, but he managed to escape justice. There is a price on his head now. The man who slays him will be richly rewarded. He deserves a slow and painful death, as he would be given if this occured on Avalon. We druids love peace and hate violence, but we avenge our own," she said with the determination of a knight.

"How did he manage to escape justice? Did Sir Ector sentence him with no guards present?" Dinadan asked, wondering how a knight could evade capture within a castle full of enemies.

"Oh, I believe he escaped from the dungeons before the sentence was due to be carried out. I really couldn't say how. He probably had a friend in the castle."

"It must be concerning to your community, that a man such as he has friends in Arthur's court." Dinadan said.

"Yes, very much so. We respect Arthur and his alliance with Viviane, so it had not occured to us that one of our young women would be so cruelly abused. I tried to persuade Seren to return to Avalon but she was determined to go to Cameliard. She wishes to prove herself, I believe. Being violated like that, well, it makes a woman feel dirtied," the woman explained.
