Arthur looked steadily at Dinadan, his expression troubled.
"Is it the thing that Sir Ector told me about? The thing about Sir Meliagaunt?"

"Yes, that would be it." Dinadan replied, with none of his usual cheer. "Also, after his arrest, Sir Meliagaunt escaped with the help of someone in your court."

"Sir Ector told me of his escape, but he could not imagine how it happened," Arthur sighed. "Do the druids suspect someone?"

"I do not know." Dinadan replied. "I did not get that impression, but our conversation was brief."

"Of course. And you thought I didn't already know?" Arthur asked.

"I was not sure. I myself did not know, and we were both questing when the incident occurred." Dinadan replied.

"That is true. Sir Ector felt obliged to tell me, though he chose to protect the victim's honour by concealing her identity. I accept that. It must be hard for the poor woman," Arthur mused. "I would offer my support but that will do no good."

"Yes, but what of the perpetrator?" Dinadan asked. "Has no one attempted to bring him to justice yet, despite the reward offered?"

"I'm sure some have tried, but I've no had the chance to look into it myself," Arthur replied. "I wish I could. But nothing will make it right after the event and I have to think of the whole kingdom, so I could hardly go off chasing one rogue knight. I expect others who didn't come with us are looking for him already. But when he is caught, he will be executed. I am determined upon it."

"If he manages to avoid justice through the duration of this war, I will seek him out myself." Dinadan decided. He was not usually a supporter for conflict, but Meliagaunt needed to be apprehended.

Arthur looked upon him with approval.
"I wish everyone had your honour," he murmured. "That would be truly wonderful, Dinadan."

"Really, your grace?" Dinadan replied. "I've never been told I'm honorable before."

Arthur looked shocked.
"Really? How could they not think you honourable?"

Dinadan shrugged. "I rarely speak with the other knights, so I can't say. I'm not the most skilled with a blade, so in general they avoid spending time with someone they consider their inferior. Perhaps some of them do think I'm honorable, I've just never heard anyone call me it before."

"Well, if anyone ever says otherwise, you may refer them to me," Arthur said. "A knight is generally supposed to be skilled with the blade, but I would not think less of one who was less skilled. Besides, I remember that you fought beside me in the Saxon queen's hall. You didn't die, so you must be a fair swordsman."
