"I agree," Morgan said brightly. "And I am not without influence upon my brother. It can be no easy thing to wear a crown, especially when you must rule many realms, as Arthur does. He has so many people that must be made happy if he is to avoid rebellion. I don't envy him. But I am pleased you have faith, both in Arthur and in Merlin. That old man had a big role in his upbringing. He will not want to see his efforts go to waste."

"Nor would I, if I had a hand in raising a child, but still, I am going to see how things start happening before I really start talking about avoiding rebellions and efforts going to waste." Iseult said, with a serene smile, "It is still very early days, but I would agree with you, that it is hard to make everyone happy, it may be best to make as many people more happy than just have everyone on the brink of contentment."

"Yes, perhaps that is so. Arthur has only been king these four months. He knows well there is much to learn but he is doing far better than a youth his age normally would, I'm sure of it. He is not short of good counsel, and I don't just mean Merlin. It's a pity your own father has not declared his support for Arthur. Do you know why that is?"

"Perhaps Arthur ran out of sisters." Iseult suggested with another slight smile.

"Perhaps he did," Morgan agreed. "But..."
She leaned in close to whisper to Iseult "He has a brother. Have you met Sir Mordred?"

"I do not believe I have had the pleasure." Isuelt confessed, with a small shake of her head. She didn't honestly believe that Arthur running out of sisters for a member of their family to marry was the whole truth, but she was willing to go with it.

Morgan grinned.
"If Arthur is desperate for an alliance with your family perhaps he might marry you to Sir Mordred," she teased. "He's younger than Uriens and Lot, if that's any recommendation. But maybe he will want someone else to marry Mordred, I couldn't really say."

"Is Arthur desperate for an alliance with my family? It is all very well saying if he is, but if he is not, it is just talk after all." Isuelt said, still smiling, "And if he does, that will be for him and my father to sort out, I shall marry whoever my father thinks will be best for Ireland. But as we are just talking, what is Sir Mordred like?"

"Dark and muscular," Morgan said with a lively expression. "Very different to Arthur but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I doubt his eventual wife would have much to complain about. I don't know Sir Mordred well but I have no reason to dislike him. And you do realise, I hope, that your father's wishes count for little while you remain here?"

"That is assuming my father cares about my well being." She said, with a shrug, "Have you met him?"

"Your father? No, I haven't. What is he like? Is he a warrior or the courtly type?"

"A king should be a bit of both, no?" Iseult replied to the question, glad the awkward, confrontational, threatening tone of the conversation had been changed again.

"Indeed. I have never visited Ireland. I know little of your people, Iseult, but I imagine your father as a big man with a long beard and a loud laugh, surrounded by a crowd of warriors just like him, telling tales of their battle glory. Have I got it badly wrong?" Morgan asked with a laugh.

"You should visit sometime and find out, my idea of what big is may be vastly different to yours, seeing as I grew up around such big warrior men." Iseult replied with a laugh of her own, " I am sure you would be very welcome if you ever wanted to visit, if there is one thing we do know, it is how to have a good time."

"I like the sound of that. I will come if I can," Morgan said. "But I don't know if my duties will allow it."
And she thought it unwise of Iseult to make an offer she might not be able to keep.
"I wonder if your father could be persuaded to pay us a visit. I will be happy to suggest Arthur invite him, if you would like it?"
