"So he was," Morgan agreed. "There are some who say my sister Morgause should be Duchess of Cornwall. I am sure you know this, cousin?"

Mark raised an eyebrow in response. "It is not said in Cornwall. If it said elsewhere it is by those whose ambitions run to more that just their own lands."

Morgan frowned.
"Oh yes? Does that mean that the men and women of Cornwall do not love the daughters of Gorlois? Have they forgotten all about us, though we were taken away from Tintagel when we were too young to have a choice in the matter?"

"Whether the daughters of Gorlois are loved or remembered in Cornwall or not, there are none that I know of that say your sister should be Duchess of Cornwall." replied Mark.

"That is because we have been gone too long. Our father was beloved of his people," Morgan insisted. "I know my sister feels the loss. I wanted to warn you to be careful. Morgause is to be Queen of Lothian and the Orkneys but if she can find a way to take Cornwall from you, she will. She has always been ambitious."

"And what of you?" asked Mark. "You are the daughter of Gorlois also."

"The younger daughter," Morgan reminded him. "My sister comes before me. I have always known that. But...perhaps, if we were to become friends, I would be able to help you."

Mark entwined his fingers under his chin and leaned forward in thought, studying Morgan intently for a moment. Finally he spoke.
"Younger you might be, but I'm wondering if you share the ambition of your sister. As soon as she marries anyone but a Cornishman, Morgause's claim is diminished, at least in the eyes of the Cornish nobility. The Cornish will not want to be ruled by the Queen of Lothian and the Orkneys, even if she is the daughter of their former Duke. Neither will Arthur wish to see the husband of his half-sister become too powerful, especially when his loyalty has been in doubt in the past."
His eyes narrowed. "You say if we become friends you will help me? How my lady? I am already the King of Cornwall, my nephew is heir to Lyonesse and loyal to me and the Cornish nobility follow me."
He held up a hand before she could protest.
"I am not rejecting your overture of friendship Lady Morgan. Indeed, if I could be sure that offer was genuine, I would welcome a friendship with the sister of the High King."

"I meant that I would support you against any overtures made by my sister and her future husband," she said. "And I would urge the king to do so. I know you are a strong and loyal king and that Arthur very much values your support. Recall also that I am more skilled in the art of sorcery than my sister. That could be useful, could it not>" OOC - Mark, please be careful about speaking of the feelings of the Cornish people as a whole. You can say how Mark thinks the Cornish people feel but just be aware that there might be some people who disagree with him

"It could be useful." Mark agreed. "But you would help in what way? Intercede with Arthur? Put an enchantment on your sister?"
OOC: Mark has been ruler of Cornwall for 14 years and resident there for most, if not all, of his life. I have to assume he would know quite a bit about the feelings of the Cornish nobility. And even if he didn't, he would still make out that he did know what they were feeling.

"I could do either of those things if the need arises," Morgan said with a grin. "But I am wondering if such a friendship would benefit me."
OOC - fair point, but you said in the profile Mark was uneasy about Morgause and Morgana yet he doesn't appear to be here so I felt I should query it.

"That would depend on what you want." replied Mark. "The High King's sisters are already influential. What could the friendship of Cornwall offer that they don't already have?"

"Well, you inhabit my father's home at Tintagel, do you not?" Morgan asked.

"You father's former home." Mark reminded her gently. "It is my home now, granted to me by King Uther close to fifteen years ago."

"It was my home too," she said. "I barely remember it. I can only think of grey walls that seem so high and the shouts of men in the yard. Yet I feel sad that I can't remember much of my first home. I am not sure I know what it feels like to have a true home. I envy you, my lord."
