Mark and his squire Dinas arrive at his private quarters, flanked by a couple of guards.
After changing his travel stained clothes, Mark sends Dinas to find a scribe.

The scribe arrives, a short, grey-haired nervous little man.
"My lord?"

"I need letters written to Hoel of Brittany and Melodias of Lyonesse." said Mark.
"And as well as that, I need to know who leads the Old Religion here in Cornwall. Make some inquiries as soon as the letters are written."
He turned to Dinas. "You may make some inquiries on my behalf too."

"My lord," said the scribe. "What shall the letters contain. And...may I ask what my lord requires of the Old Religion?"

"Write that we are planning to move against the Irish pirates." replied Mark. If Brittany helps Cornwall, then we shall help Brittany against those marauders that plague them. The Franks, the Saxons..whoever. Suggest a marriage as a sealer to our agreement."
Mark crossed to a table where a wine flagon waited. He poured himself a cup of wine.
"Tell the head priest or Chief Druid or whatever he calls himself that his King wants to see him."

"Yes, my lord king. One question, if I may? Do you offer yourself as husband to whoever allies with you in the matter of the pirates? Or your nephew, Sir Tristram? Or...both?"

Mark stopped and thought for a second. "Both." he said. "My nephew is shaping to be a knight of some renown and is a Prince to boot. As such he has currency in the marriage market."

"Of course, my lord. I will see it done. Is there anything else?"

"Not presently, no." replied Mark. "Find me the High Priest as soon as possible though."

"Yes, my lord. He will have to be sent for. It will likely take a few days for him to arrive."

"Very well." replied Mark. "Get him here as soon as possible."

"Yes, my lord."
The squire bowed and withdrew.

A week or so later, the Chief Druid of Cornwall arrived at Tintagel. It would take long for King Mark's letters to be sent.

Mark summoned the Chief Druid to his private quarters as soon as he learnt of his arrival.

The Chief Druid was a man nearing his fifties. His brown hair was streaked with grey and was receding from his forehead but he had a long beard to compensate for it.. He wore plain robes and walked proudly into the king's chambers and did not bow.
"King Mark," he said in a rough voice that was clearly unused to courtly matters.
