"I do practice the arts," Morgause agreed. "Not as much as my sister but I have some skill. I have never met you. Where do you live?"
She smiled at Ironside.
"And which bit is correct, that you are the lady's protector or that you are a gallant knight?"

"Oh, I can see your point," Arthur said thoughtfully.
The youthful light of adventure filled his eyes. He looked like the boy he still was rather than a king.
"IMaybe this platypus is what the Romans called the mythical Questing Beast. I believe I shall ask Geoffrey about it. What do you think, Merlin, Sir Marrok?"

At Morgause's question to Ironside, Hallewes gave a small burst of laughter.
"We live in a small village." Hallewes said, not sure she wanted everone to know where Cerden was.

"In the Red Lands being a knight means something quite different than it does in England", Ironside humored the woman with an explanation, "I'm a warrior and as these boys will find out in time, there is no place for gallantry or chivalry in war."

"It is an egg-laying, venomous, duck-billed, beaver-tailed, otter-footed, mammal." Merlin replied to the king and his bodyguard, with a playful glint in his eye. No doubt both men thought he had invented the creature off the top of his head. "I can think of no being better suited to prepare you for dealings with...unique people." Marrok chuckled, thinking Merlin invented the creature off the top of his head. "It is certainly a perplexing animal," he noted drolly. "A venomous duck with a beaver's tail," he smiled to himself.

"I do hope your Questing Beast is more majestic than the platypus, but I suppose it would give Geoffrey something to do." Merlin replied with a chuckle.
"Truly it is Sir Marrok. I thought I could count on a man in your predicament to be more open-minded." he answered the werewolf knight with a wink.

Morgause shivered and moved closer to Hallewes as Ironside spoke. Her flirtiness vanished at his tone.
"Oh, I would so hate to live in a village," she said. "They seem such dull places. But where are the Red Lands? Are they in Ireland?"
////////
"Yes, and me as well. I want to see this platypus. Could you bring me one, Merlin?"

Marrok coughed and nodded. Turning his attention to his wine for a moment. "Yes well, the full moon is not for another fortnight...." he trailed off.

Ironside realized in speaking the truth, he had scared the young woman. He wouldn't lose any sleep over it, but Hallewas had warned him to play nice while in Camelot.
"I am sorry if I offended, my lady. Such crude views of mine have no place in this celebration. The Red Lands are in Luxembourg. I'm sure many of the wealthier lads here carry weapons forged of steel from my homeland." he said, going through the considerable effort to don a genuine smile.

Merlin gave a hearty laugh in response to Arthur's request, reminding him that the king was still very much a boy.
"Remind me again when it's closer to your birthday. Perhaps I'll send Archimedes on a quest for one."
Turning his expression serious, he replied to Marrok's ominous statement.
"Yes and we will make what little preparations we can, good knight." he said with a sad smile.

Arthur looked from one man to the other in concern. He felt for Marrok.
"I shall wait for this platypus then but it can't be very big if Archmedes can fetch it for me. How is the rogue?"
//////////
"I have never been to Luxembourg," Morgause admitted.
She had only a very vague idea of where it was. Morgan would know, she thought.
"I'm sure it's a very pretty land, sir. And don't worry, you did not offend me. So is that where you and the Lady Hallewes are both from?"

"It is a hard land, but beautiful in its own way. That is where I hail from...Lady Hellewas has her own tale I am sure. But let us here more about you. I have doubts that Uther could sire such a ravishing beauty, so where is it those looks originated?" Ironside asked.

"Old and grumpy, much like his master." Merlin replied, taking a drink from his goblet.

Morgause giggled.
"But King Uther was not my father! My father was Gorlois, who was my mother's first husband. She mraried Uther later," Morgause explained. "My father was Duke of Cornwall so that is where I lived when I was little. But I learned enchantments from a nun at Glastonbury Abbey, who used to be a sorceress before she became devout."
//////////
"Ohy, why are you grumpy?" Arthur asked curiously.

Hallewes hadnt heard Morgause's story before. "Whho was your teacher?" She asked interestedly. Onher travels she had learnt from many and wondered if she had contacted the one that taught the younger woman.
