"Her name is Gwennol. She is very much a Christian now but she still practiced enchantments sometimes, said she didn't want to lose the skill. She is old, nearly fifty, with grey hair and wrinkles. She has a kind heart though. She was always good to Morgan and myself and later to my mother. Morgan was especially good at learning what Gwennol taught us. I think she was Gwennol's favourite."

"It is a skill that none should loose." Hallewes said mildly. "It is also easy to have favourites when you are not supposed to."

"Yes, I suppose it is. Gwennol always loved my sister's talent. She was fond of me too, but in a different way. Who taught you, Lady...Hallewes?"

"The list is long my Lady. I have been taught by many both in this land and not. I started at my home though."

"Oh. Do you live in a place with lots of sorcerors then?" Morgause asked curiously. "I can't imagine what that's like. My sister went to Avalon so she got to meet all the druids but I never heard of a community of sorcerors."

"Oh. Did you go anywhere interesting? Have you been to the Orkneys? That's where my betrothed lives," she confided.

Hallewes thought about her answer for a moment.
"I spent a week there when I was younger." She said. "I have been to interesting places and not so interesting places. Some more then others and some clearly lacking."

"So which ones would you say were intresting and which ones not?" Morgause asked. "Have you met any interesting men?"

"There is many of both Lady Morgause. It would take too long to detail them all." Hallewes replied. "There are many and more men out there, all interesting in their own way."

Morgause smiled like a cat and toyed with her hair.
"So tell me about the men you have taken to your bed," she said. "I'm dying to hear."

Hallewes gave a mirthless smile. "My Lady I do not go into those things with people I barely know."

"Oh, alright then. Are you coming to the Beltanes fires after the feast?" Morgause asked, but she was obviously disappointed to be denied gossip.

"You are kind to say so, my son. I agree, Avalon is like no other place in this world. I may consider staying a little while, we'll have to see. Avalon can manage without me if need be, but not forever." She smiled and laid her hand on his. "Has any lady caught your eye yet?" Morgan nodded as she saw the sorceress, her expression mildly friend, but she was otherwise engaged in her conversation with Iseult. She grinned at the Irish girl. "Men, of course. Especially with the festivities. Morgause is probably looking for a suitable knight to celebrate with. As for me, I will wait and see if any man catches my eye at the fires. I will not go looking for him." "Any lady?" He questioned and then smiled, "No as of yet mother. but I am always looking." Lancelot replied, turning his hand over to hold hers firmly, "I would be very happy if you stayed, with all the family I have around being Galahad it gets rather... singular," he went on, not sure on the right word to use. Iseult suspicions had been confirmed, not that it had been hard to decipher. "I am sure you will find a good man there, there are plenty I think. I have never properly taken part in the fertility rites before, and I am not thinking of doing so this time, I still have the girlish dream of waiting for my... anamchara? Do you have that word? Beloved I think?"

Viviane laughed a little.
"I can imagine. Your brother is staunch in his support of Christianity but I wish he had other interests beyond Christianity and knighthood. Make no mistake, I don't think less of him for following a God that I do not myself have faith in, but sometimes I worry that the priests seek to control their followers, as we druids do not. I will stay if I can. Perhaps there might be reason to do so," she said with a secretive little smile.

"Yes, we have that word, but in England a marriage is made for political reasons and rarely for love. I certainly don't love King Uriens though my mother says love may come in time. I would rather honour the goddess than wait for a husband I barely know," Morgan said with a laugh. "Uriens knows this, though we have not spoken directly. I do know that he has played the King Stag in one of the oldest and most powerful rituals, when he took his father's throne as a young man. He cannot deny the power of the old ways."
