"Damned if I know," Gawain sighed, pushing his hair back from his face. "But we must try. What sort of knight would I be if I failed to rescue damsels in distress. We may have to hurry away from here."

"Lord. Bad news upon bad news," Arthur said. "First Alexander, then Uther, and now this. Thank you, Galahad. Do we know where they were taken?"

"I don't, but the messenger may, he's with Gawain in the hall." Galahad replied. "The messenger did not look in the best way though, I believe he may require a healer."

Dina gave a small smile.
"You would not be you certainly." She said. "I wish that I had asked more then we might have more to go on."

"Thank you, but try not to talk, Sir, save your strength for getting well again." She said with a soft smile and took some clean cloth and the fire water and started to bath the wound in it, "It is not pleasant to ask, My lady, but does Mistress Lucia keep maggots, do you know, they will help clean the wound."

"Oh no! We could ask one of the druids to tend him," Arthur said, forgetting that Galahad wasn't exactly fond of the druids. "Or Mistress Lucia, if she is willing. Come, Galahad, let us hurry back. And thank you for coming to fetch me. Is the messenger wounded?"
He was already starting back for the hall as he asked the question.

"It doesn't matter now," Gawain said. "He will speak, when he feels better. Your face surely cheered him as he came into the castle. Poor man."

Alexander closed his eyes, but he seemed happier for having Iseult there. His mother went to the cabinet.
"Yes, she does. But there are many who dislike the creatures. Nor can I blame them, but I will do anything I can to spare my poor son."
Sir Ector's lady brought over a jar of crawling maggots, her face twisted in a rictus of disgust. Meanwhile, Alexander twitched and moaned as Iseult tended him, though he was clearly doing his best not to scream.

"I'm not sure." Galahad admitted, hurrying after the King. "He may be. Shall I fetch Ser Ector's healer?"

"Pleas do. She'll be at the infirmary," Arthur said. "That's on the lowest floor of this tower. First door on your right, you can't miss it."

Galahad nodded and dashed off to the the infirmary, moving as quickly as he could.

"Don't worry, you will not have to touch them," She said with a smile, as she kept trying to clean the would with the fire water, then the vinegar, as an extra measure. "How long has it been since he was wounded?"

Galahad found the infirmary without much trouble but when he arrived, he saw Mistress Lucia sitting alone, stabbing a needle into a piece of sewing. Her movements were sharp and vicious.

Alexander was moaning louder now, almost screaming in pain.
"I am not sure," Sir Ector's lady answered. "He has been home a fortnight, perhaps. But he has grown worse. He rode here on horseback."

Galahad knocked on the door. "Are you Sir Ector's healer, madam?" He asked.

The old lady looked round.
"I was, but it seems my services may no longer be welcome," she said bitterly. "What is it now? Have you come to tell me I am to be pensioned off to a cottage on the estate?"

"No, I'm here to inform you there is a man in need of your aid." Galahad frowned, disliking her tone.

"Oh, is there now? My services were not required to tend Alexander, a boy I delivered with my own hands, just as I delivered his brothers Kay and Uther. They said I was too old,. Why should I help this man now?" She asked.

"Because it is your duty." Galahad snapped. "How can you in good conscience allow an injured man to go untreated?"
