The old lady rose to her feet.
"i have never shirked my duty, sir. Not in fifty years. But now that girl has taken my place at Alexander's side. How am I to bear such humiliation? How do I know you speak the truth, that I am truly needed?"

Alexander was moaning louder now, almost screaming in pain. "I am not sure," Sir Ector's lady answered. "He has been home a fortnight, perhaps. But he has grown worse. He rode here on horseback." "Two weeks?" Iseult asked surprised and looked back at the wound. Sir Alexander was putting her off with his pained noises, it made her think that she must be doing something wrong, even though she was fairly certain she was not. Once the would was cleaned she took Sir Alexander's hand and squeezed it. "It's nearly over now, Sir, you're doing very well, just hold on for a bit longer." She reached over for the maggots and started applying them, never having a problem with bugs and insects.

"You think I would lie to you about a matter such as this?" Galahad asked, incredulously. "I am a knight, madam."

Alexander nodded but then lost consciousness. His mother dared not look as Iseult put the maggots into the wound.
"Yes, we thought all would be well but my poor boy got worse over time. Perhaps...perhaps Mistress Lucia truly has lost her touch."

"Sometimes these things just happen out of anyone's control, but I do not know Mistress Lucia enough, or have enough experience to be able to tell you" Iseult said with a frown as she kept working, "Though.. this is all fairly basic, and if she has been healing a long time then perhaps, but perhaps it is just a brief lapse?" She did not want to pass judgement on the woman.

"Perhaps that is so, but she tended Sir Ector when he was a boy too. She is more than seventy years old, my lady. There are not many in this castle who have seen as many winters," Sir Ector's wife explained. "When the body grows old, the mind often does also."

"Perhaps she has earned a rest then?" Iseult suggested, trying to be delicate with her phrasing as she was trying to be delicate with placing the Maggots, so as to cause Alexander the least pain until she was done.

Fortuantely Alexander remained unconscious.
"Yes, I think that is the case. We let the poor dear tend Alexander but it is time we sought a new physician for the castle."

"If you think that is for the best, my lady," Iseult said, not really wanting to get involved in the inner workings of the castle, "I just hope I have been able to help," she added with a smile and finished up the maggots finally, and put on a loose layer of bandage over them, to keep them in place.

"Well done, my dear. You have done very well," the lady said. "God bless you. I pray that Alexander will be safe now."
She moved forward and kissed Iseult on the cheek.

"Thank you," Iseult said with a smile as the woman kissed her cheek, "I shall leave you alone with him now then, I hope he feels better when he wakes up," She went on and gave a small curtsey before leaving the room.

"You think I would lie to you about a matter such as this?" Galahad asked, incredulously. "I am a knight, madam." She stared suspiciously at him. "Yes, and Sir Ector is a knight, but he let that little girl tend my dear Alexander all the same, as if I wished the dear boy harm! But very well, I shall go with you, sir." She stood and walked over to her cabinets. "What manner of man is this who needs my aid?"

"A messenger." Galahad replied. "He seems as if he may pass out at any moment."

"Then let us hurry," she said, seeming to regain her composure.
She stuffed a few items into a bag and shoved it at Galahad.
"Here, carry this. And hurry, your legs are longer than mine, and faster too. I will follow/"

Galahad nodded, and hurried back toward the hall with her supplies.
