A grove of rowan trees

Shortly after arriving in Avalon, Merlin made his way to the sacred grove. It had always been one of his favorite places during his youth spent under the tutelage of the druids. His staff had been carved from one of the branches harvested from these mystic trees. Merlin could feel powerful energy surging through his staff from the close proximity to its source.
The wizard sat on a nearby stone and closed his eyes, becoming one with the winds of magic billowing around him.

AFfter a while, he heard footsteps nearby.

Merlin opens his eyes and turns to see who is approaching

It was Viviane, clothed in a loose, flowing druid's robe. She was smiling. It seemed that being back home had kindled a light in her.
"It feels good to be back, doesn't it?"

Merlin relaxed, seeing Viviane. Though twenty years his minor, she was every bit his peer when it came to magical arts.
"It does indeed, Lady Viviane. The energy here makes me feel a young man again. I see it has a similar effect on you, as you look more radiant than ever." he replied with a wistful smile. "I shall strive to not put off my next visit another half-century. I needed this." he admitted.

"Of course. You have had a difficult year. It will be well to be strong on your quest. I wish that I were going. I intended to but my place is here and someone must keep an eye on both your groups, and who better than me? Fear not, though. Morgan will see you safe into the kingdom of the Fay. The girl has power and faith, and she believes in this quest."

"If you have faith in the girl, then I will follow her in without doubts. I suppose I have found it difficult to trust Morgan and her sister, whether from guilt in the part I played in their father's death or uncertainty regarding how much they know of that terrible event." Merlin replied, eyes clouded with regret.

Viviane sighed and touched Merlin on the shoulder.
"I don't believe Morgan hates you. She has a lot of respect for those who have magic. I do believe she hated Uther, but he is dead now, and she is loyal to Arthur. Indeed, I find it hard to see how anyone could be otherwise. I don't know how you did it, but you did very well with our king."

"Sometimes I wonder if I did anything at all." the old man said with a chuckle. "Perhaps you can't teach a good heart. Without me he'd just have a dozen less confusing philosophies floating around in his head. Some would say he would have been better off."

"I wonder who. I would not," Viviane mused. "I must ask you to watch over the young people in Arthur's company closely once they enter the kingdom of the Fay. They will not be used to the beauty or the danger and some may have their heads turned if they are not watched."

Merlin looked up to the heavens, a bemused look on his face.
"Sometimes I wonder if the history books will remember me as a wizard or a wetnurse, Lady Viviane. I will do my best keep them from harm."

"I know, but anyone who has crossed the worlds, as we have, knows the dangers of eating and drinking their food. I would not wish anyone to become trapped, never knowing when he or she would return."

"Fear not, I'll watch them all like a hawk. You have my word. I'll bring them back kicking and screaming if need be." he said, attempting to ease her concerns. "You worry about ruling your people and having a warm welcome for us when we return. Knowing the passions of some of the druidesses in your service, I'm sure the young men will be eager to get back."

"Yes, that's true," Viviane laughed. "We're not sex-mad all the time though, only when it comes to celebrating our gods. But this quest will make the men heroes -so I'm sure my girls will be more than happy to welcome them when they return."
