"Just on time!" he shouted at the sister with a smile, "Are you ready?"

"Yes. What do you mean just on time?"
She looked confusedly from Taliesin to her brother and back to Taliesin again.

"An elderly druid just performed a cleansing ritual. She just left," Taliesin explained. There was no sense in hiding the truth from the young girl.

"It was Grandmother," the boy said, taking his flute. "Shall we play now?"

"After you," Taliesin said, readying his lute.

The young druid began to play a slow and haunting tune on his flute. His sister joined after a few seconds, once she had caught the melody.

Taliesin joined after the sister had gotten into the swing of the music, playing a quiet yet happy countermelody to the boy's chilling tune.

The trio made sweet music for a while and more druids paused in their devotions or daily tasks to watch them. When they stopped the girl said in a whisper "You are the best bard I have ever heard, Master Taliesin."

"You flatter me, lass, yet I believe that you and your brother have the potential to reach my level of skill someday."

"Really?"
The girl giggled.
"I'm a better bard than I am a druid. My magic is quite weak. My mother says she is going to arrange for me to learn from the bards on the island. Perhaps one day we will play again together, when I'm properly trained."

"I look forward to playing with you both again, perhaps at least once more before I leave the island." He looked at the brother, "Would you like to learn a few tricks for the flute?"

"Of course. How many instruments do you play, then?"

"Just the two. I never learned the harp, since I didn't have regular access to one, and I have long forgotten how to play the panpipes." Taliesin said, setting his lute down and withdrawing the flute from its holster at his side.

"But would you like to learn at some point?"

"Some day, yes. I would like to take up the harp and the pipes and the horns of the vikings and the drums of the Moors. I would like to learn every instrument in the world, yet I do not have the time," the bard replied, raising the flute to his lips.
