"No, your father had nothing to do with it, and Arthur made the match without consulting me. I would look wicked if I refused. Such is the way of women, Mordred. Our male kin think they are entitled to marry us off as it suits them, and we must comply."

"I think Arthur knows to have a healthy respect for both religions, as I tried to teach. But religion is a personal choice. I will not be the one to tell him to favor one over the other. As long as he understands that all beliefs must be respected, even if only a single man follows them, I will be content." Merlin replied, truly believing that no religious oppression would ever take place under the eye of their current king.

Is that your mothers doing?"

"Perhaps you are right," Viviane agreed. "But I do wish Arthur would be fully commited to our own faith. I do not hate the Christian faith but neither can I bring myself to love it. I would much prefer a pagan king to a Christian one, though I am thankful that Arthur does respect both."
///////
"Possibly," Morgan said with a shrug. "It may be that he will join us shortly. I hope so. But you are right. Mother was strictly pagan when I was a girl but she turned to Christianity in the years after she married Uther. Our brother has a curious nature. He likes to learn about all things and Christianity has caught his interest."

Mordred slowly shook his head, "A King of Britain should follow the lore of the land and the Druid not this god."

While waiting for Hallewes to arrive, Sir Ironside noted the entrance of the dark-haired knight he had seen at the feast. He had meant to speak with him after overhearing the man discussing time spent fighting with the germanian tribes. The Red Knight new they were a hard people and anyone that had fought with them might be a warrior worthy of his time. He began walking towards the knight in question, when Morgause walked away in his general direction. "Good evening, Lady Morgause. The moonlight suits you well." Her expression was stony but lightened at his compliment. "Oh, so you can be gallant, Sir Ironside! Wonderful! I see that you were telling the truth of that. It's nice to know that somebody appreciates me. I noticed you did not offer to join my brother on his quest."

"A good king should be a representation of what is best in his people. Britain is a diverse land, and I think it fitting that our king embraces this." Merline said with a touch of fatherly pride in Arthur.

Mordred slowly shook his head, "A King of Britain should follow the lore of the land and the Druid not this god." "I agree, but I am not a king, and Arthur has not travelled to Avalon as I have done nor studied the mysteries of Cernunnos and Modron. Who could blame him for being enthralled by a god who dies and comes back to life. Arthur was raised as a warrior. One day he may have to face the threat of death in battle."

"Do you think I have not? I ahve gone into battle trusting that if I fall in battle that this is not the end for me. That my body shall continue in this world forever."

Merline said with a touch of fatherly pride in Arthur. "I agree," Gaius said. "We are a land of two faiths whether we like it or not, but I can understand why the Lady of the Lake would prefer not to embrace Christianity." "I have found many Christians to be close-minded against the teachings of our own faith," Viviane replied. "I fear the influence they will exert upon our land and our king while he is still of an age to be influenced."

Morgan nodded.
"Of course. And the concept of returning to life after death does not appeal to you, Mordred?"

"They say even a dragon smiles on occasion, my lady." Ironside replied with a smile of his own. "How could one not appreciate you, with the bountiful gifts the gods have bestowed upon you? As for the quest, hunting for mystic relics is better left to boyish fantasy. I prefer to use my talents to attain items with more immediate satisfaction." he continued, looking her up and down with lustful eyes.

"I have found that to be true as well, Lady Viviane. But I see no reason why paganism and christianity cannot co-exist. Though a boy, Arthur knows what is right. He sees the best in everything and everyone. If he can take the most positive elements from both religions, we may witness the dawning of a bright new era." Merlin said, revealing his hopes for the future.

"Oh? That is good to know. I don't intend to go on the quest either. I'm not interested in such things. Like you, I prefer more immediate satisfaction.
////////
"It would not be two lives, you would not become a child again," Morgan said with a laugh. "But as you will. Have you been far beyond Britain, Mordred?"
////////
"Ah, Merlin, ever the optimist," Viviane said. "But you have a right to be, after all. You may well be right but I still wish our ways were dominant. But I have lived on Avalon most of my life and not experienced the things you have. I cling to what I know. I have not needed to learn tolerance of those different to myself."
