"What satisfactions does a woman of your station seek? It seems all you could desire is a snap of your fingers away." Ironside asked curiously.

"You cannot blame yourself, it is a problem most of the world faces and will continue to struggle with for millenia. Mankind has always been simultaneously awed and terrified by the unknown. This very rite is an ode to that fact, as are many of the church's rites. Pagans and Christians are more alike than either realize." Merlin said with confidence.

Morgause smiled.
"I desire power and to have men fall at my feet when I ask them to. Or even if I don't."
//////////
"How do you mean? How can we be alike"? Viviane asked.

"A worthy goal, but I doubt it will be hard to get those of Orkney to bow before their new queen. Then what will you desire?" the Red Knight prodded, hoping to learn more.

"Religion is no more than man's vain attempt to understand the universe around him. Pagans do so through magic and rituals. Christians do so through penance and prayer. The means we use may be vastly different, but the end goal is the same." Merlin answered.

"Oh, I don't know. My husband to stand high in the king's counsels, perhaps, to be my husband's strong right hand, that sort of thing. A handsome lover in my bed."
She grinned at him.
/////////
"You could be right there. Both faiths believe in the Cup of Life, which they call the Holy Grail. But I wonder if our vision of it was the same as theirs. Or...if it was even the same for each one of us. Did you see it as a great chalice born by a divine maiden?" Viviane asked.

The Red Knight returned the grin with one of his own.
"All worthy goals for the future. But what is it you want this instant, Lady Morgause?"
///
Merlin gave a hearty laugh.
"Well I must admit it was not the first image that popped into my head, but such things are rarely as imagined. If all appeared as many expected them too, I would have horns and a forked tail and you would be a mystical creature of the fay living beneath the depths of your lake. Luckily, we are more pleasant than our legends would lead others to believe."

Sir Lamorak appears in his feast clothes though he is wearing a non descript cloak. A christian by birth he a very intrigued by the old religion. He is not very familiar with the ceremony though he looks over the assembled attendants.

Diwrnach arrives wearing all brown with a bear fur cloak, his hair long and beard plaited. The druid decides to make the most of the ritual.

"I have traveled aye. After my father died and..." Mordred's words slowly to nothing but then he continues, "Yes I tarveled as far as Ancient Rome even into the heart of Germany."

"This instant? Oh. I want to celebrate the rites as is proper and then I want to do honour to the gods with my body."
Morgause winked at Ironside.
/////////
"We are indeed, Merlin. I assure you I am entirely human. The fay certainly are not, though they are not entirely unlike us in appearance, as we both know. But I think it would be horribly cold living in a lake, don't you?"
////////
Lamorak is approached by a young druidess who eyed him with curiosity.
"Greetings, sir. Are you looking forward to the celebrations?"
///////////
A small cluster of druids, both male and female, wave Diwrnach over to join them. He recognises a couple of them as acquaintances from among his travels.

"I have traveled aye. After my father died and..." Mordred's words slowly to nothing but then he continues, "Yes I tarveled as far as Ancient Rome even into the heart of Germany." "Rome? Then you have seen into the heart of the Christian faith," Morgan said. "Is the ancient city as grand as they say it is? Are their roads lined with the bodies of the crucified dead or is that just a story?"

Mordred for a fare time laughed, "There is death the same as here but not what the stories would have you think. But yes it is the home of the Christian and I have seen that there holy priests are not as wise and caring as you would believe."

"It is a body worthy of their attention.", Ironside replied with roaming eyes, "Though I am curious how many of your fellow women will honor the gods so. It seems the influence of Christianity has burdened many of them with new-found modesty."

"I have spent some time as a fish and it is something you become accustomed too." ,Merlin replied with a playful smile, "The questions on my origins are something I never got used to though."

Lamorak had been watching the crowd but had not been expecting to be approached. It took him a moment to realize that the young druidess had been addressing him.
The words finally registered and he nodded "Greetings my lady" He felt uncomfortable, a feeling he was not accustomed to. "I am looking forward to the celebration though I confess that I know little of it."
/////////////////////////////////////
Diwrnach approaches the cluster druids, "Greetings all, it has been a while. I confess it is good to be amongst people primarily of our faith." He knew their would be a few christians this evening.

"Oh, I am not sure whether I believe it or not," Morgan said. "I spent years in the convent at Glastonbury. I know that nuns are the same as women everywhere and even some of them hold to the old ways, though I'll thank you not to go shouting that around Camelot."
////////
"Not if they are pagans. See, my sister is here and so is the Lady Viviane, and a number of druidesses. Real women know that it is proper to honour the gods with our bodies and not hide ourselves in shame. This Christ must not have been much of a man when he lived if he did not enjoy the company of women," Morgause scoffed, not caring who heard.
////////
"I suppose not. You will get no questions from me, not now. I know that it does not matter. Blood ties are strongest through the mother's line. That is what counts on Avalon and never mind this Roman business about the father's bloodline."
