"Why is that? What do you need with the dead?"

"You will see." Hallewes said grimly, sniffing the air again as if she could find the way to go by doing that.

There were no indications yet of which way they should go. The place was definitely eerie. There were no signs of life.

Hallewes shrugged then stode off again. The worst that could happen was that they reached the other side of the island and falling into the sea.

They walked for some time but didn't come to the far side of the island. They did find something, however. There were people some distance ahead , farm workers by the look of them. They were working in the fields. Clearly somebody did live here with Mawr.
"Now we know how your sorceror feeds himself," Alfred remarked. "Maybe you should speak to them, lady? Or get Sir Ironside to do so."

"Ironside?"Hallewes asked "Do you feel up to talking to them?"
If anyone could make someone talk it would be Ironside

"Very well, my lady." Ironside replied, striding towards the farmers.
"Greetings" he began, amicably enough to the nearest man. The Red Knight was content with being well-mannered as long as the farmers were forthcoming with information. If they weren't, the situation would deteriorate quickly.

The nearest man ignored Ironside. He was busy pulling crops of some kind from the ground. He seemed not to have even heard the knight.

"I'm looking someone. Perhaps you can help me?" Ironside continued undeterred. He did not like being ignored and gritted his teeth together to keep a smile on his face.

The man continued to work. It was as if he could not stop. His eyes were fixated on the ground.

Roland covered the distance between himself and the farmer quickly, his thin patience worn away and replaced by rage at the man's insolence. He gripped the front of the man's shirt with his strong hands and lifted the offending party up to eye level.
"I will not be ignored! Now where is the old man?!?!" he demanded.

When the farmer looked at Ironside, he could see that his eyes were utterly vacant though they were not sightless or covered with cataracts. There was no fear in his face, his mouth hung slack with surprise but not overt shock
"You. Must. Let. Go. Crops. To. Be. Tended."
The voice was low and unnatural, monotonous. It was as if he were reciting some catecism he had been taught by priests. There was no life in his voice.
"There. Is. No. Old. Man. Let. Me. Tend. My. Crops."

Hallewes looked around to see if she could see anything in the gloom. The farmhands, she left to Ironside,

Everything looked exactly as a farm should, except the odd behaviour of the farmhands. The only difference was the stench of magical corruption and the unnatural darkness, a strange half-light that made Hallewes think of dusk though it was nowhere near that hour. And then she saw something odd. A light glowing unnatural green in the gloomy fields.

Hallewes cocked her head and stared at the glow. Causiously she moved towards it.,
