Ironside went back to the dismembered corspe and tore the creature's tunic into long strips.
"Will this do?"

Alfred looked up and nodded. He tied the makeshift contraption together to make a litter to carry Hallewes then lifted her gently onto it. She still had not woken.
"I don't understand why he would do this to her. If he wants to speak with her she needs to be awake, and if he meant to kill her he would have done it already."

"Do not strain yourself trying to understand the mind of a magician. It will do little good. We must find the man and force him to wake her." he said with certainty.

"But how? All I can think of is to keep walking and we don't know how far we can get? We'll have to go as far as we can and then rest. There's no other choice."

"Then we better get started." Ironside replied, hefting up one side of Hallewes' litter and starting off in the direction that seemed most likely.

They walked past the edge of the farmlands and entered the outskirts of a forest. Thetwo men, unmagical as they were, could sense the atmosphere was very wrong. The corruption of bad magic was like a mist all around them. They walked for some hours through the woodland and then, Alfred, his muscles screaming, said "We should rest and eat. Your lady must be protected and we can't do that if we are weak."

Though he normally would have made some snide remark about the Saxon's weakness, something about the corrupted forest made Ironside hold his tongue.
"Very well, you rest and I'll take first watch." he said gruffly.

Alfred nodded and after they had eaten he lay down and closed his eyes. Soon enough, he was asleep and snoring.
Ironside hadn't been on watch long before he saw an eerie green like akin to the one that had been on the farmland.

"Wake up Saxon!" he insisted, drawing his greatsword and walking towards the green light.

Alred woke somewhat groggily. Hallewes did not. Alfred groped for his weapon as the green light got brighter and more solid and formed into a vaguely human shape.
"Be not afraid. I come in peace."
The voice was soft and feminine, commanding but gentle.
"Put up your sword."

"After seeing these lands I see little reason my sword should ever leave my hand." Ironside replied warily to the woman. "Who are you and what have you done to my lady?"

Her laughter was like the fluttering of a bird's wing.
"Why do you think it was me? I dislike being accused of something I have not done. Your lady brought this upon herself by her own actions. She chose to come to this land."
The woman got closer still and now he could see that she was very beautiful but her skin was as green as jade and her hair a pale green with a shimmer to it. She was plainly not mortal.

"She wandered into a similar light when she took to this state and you're the first thing I've met that wasn't a shambling corpse. Why wouldn't I suspect you?" he said, trying to resist her honeyed words. His eyes though looked upon her green flesh with some interest.

"All of my people appear thus to you humans," she said. "As it happens, I happen to know that it was my brother's doing. He is not half as kind as I."
She smiled at him and moved closer though still out of sword range. She was beautiful in an inhuman manner, her bone structure both fine and strong. Her curves were covered by a short white dress that did little to conceail her shape.
"Perhaps I will help you."

"That would be most kind. I suppose this help would not come without a price?" Ironside asked.
