"I can do that," Isuelt said with a nod and stood back slightly and waited to be told what to do, her eyes never leaving the old man.

He asked her to fetch certain herbs, such as mint and thyme. The drawers were all labelled in Gaius' neat handwriting so it wasn't difficult to find them. Gaius laid them in a small bowl and showed her how to crush them.
"They need to be as fine as possible. You could try if you like?"

"Thank you" Iseult said and reached out for the stuff to crush the herbs and tried to mimic what Gaius had done, "is this right?" she asked, she didn't think she had action right, it seemed to be working somewhat, thought she supposed it all came with practice.

HE looked over at her.
"It needs more work. You need to make the crushed leaves finer. Try to pound them harder."
He took the pestle from her and applied more force to crush the leaves even smaller.

"I see, so it's just as much about force as it is in getting the action right? That makes sense." She said, and watched him as he set to work again.

Once the leaves were fully crushed, Gaius produced a bottle of mead and poured an amount into a pot and then added a small quantity of water before putting the pot on to boil. He added the chopped leaves and gave it a stir.
"Could you keep an eye on the mixture while I add the remaining ingredients?"

"Of course," Iseult replied and looked at the mixture, looking out for any change that was not a direct result of Gaius putting another ingredient in.

After a while the mixture began to boil, as well as thicken as Gauis added more ingredients, including various herbs. It had turned a nasty yellowish-green colour.

Iseult thought it was beginning to look more like the salve Gaius had for wounds now, but didn't seem to be quite there, perhaps it needed more time to bubble. Iseult was making another note of when and what quantity seemed to be the right time and amount for each ingredient to go in

Gaius tossed in a few more ingredients.
"And now we wait. Keep stirring, child. It's coming along well. Patience is key."

"Patience..." Iseult intoned, as if it were sage wisdom she was putting to memory. She kept stirring at an even pace, even when there seemed to be nothing happening, Gaius would say if she needed to change anything, she was certain.

Nothing happened for a while, though Gaius took the time to explain some of the finer points of crafting potions while Iseult stirred from time to time. The mixture thickened. After some time, there was a knock on the door.
"Would you answer it, my dear? Your legs are younger than mine."

Iseult nodded and rested the spoon she was stirring with on the rim of the potion so it did not interfere unecessarily with the mixture. The she went to the big wooden door to pull it open slightly, and see who was knocking.

A small figure thrust her way into the room. Iseult recognised the new arrival as a young druid girl. She flung herself on Iseult and burst into tears.

Iseult stagged back slightly as the girl ran into her but rubbed her back reassuringly, despite being taken aback. "What is wrong?" Iseult asked the druid girl after a second. She was not used to dealing with people crying
