Dina wiped away the tears.
"Thank the gods that I can cry on demand." She whispered back to him.

"You shouldn't have told me that," he said with a hint of humour. "You'll never be able to use that tactic when we're married."

Dina poked her tongue out at him.
"I will, and you will fall for it because you wont know when its real." She grinned.

"Or maybe I'll never believe it at all," he said. "Hush now, we must go on to the next section of the ramparts, and there are guards here we must pass."

"Yes sir..." Dina muttered with a quick smile, then she rearranged her face straight.

Gawain choked down laughter. He led her along the next section of wall. One of the guards waved to him. Gawain made a lewd gesture in response that had the man laughing.
"Prentend you never saw that," Gawain whispered to Dina. "Ladies don't know about such things."

Dina grinned.
"Saw what Gawain?"

"Good lass," he whispered. "We will have to be careful when we get those girls out. I hay have to kill another guard. We will look strange if there are three girls rather than two."

Dina nodded.
"It will be fine Gawain. We will manage."

"We'll have to," he said.
The next guard they saw, however, called out "Who goes there?"
"I just took Princess here to the chapel," Gawain replied, deliberately saying as little as possible in case they registered his northern accent.
"When did you take her out of her cell? I never saw."
"Maybe you were sleeping," Gawain shot back.
"I was not."
The guard looked over at Dina and pulled back her hood.
"You're not the princess."

"Last time I looked my father was a king." Dina answered calmly. She was trying to give Gawain a little time to kill the man.

Gawain reached for his dagger while Dina spoke to the man.
"But you can't be. Princesses are both in the tower."
The guard seemed confused; perhaps he was slow-witted.

"Prehaps you should check again." Dina said, her voice was still very calm. "But I promise you that I am of royal blood."

"I know the princeses," the man snapped. "Who are you? Don't l-uuuh."
But he stopped as Gawain drove his dagger up through the guard's ribs. Blood spurted and Gawain caught the man to stop him from falling down. The guard's eyes reflected pain and shock as Gawain propped him against the ramparts. His life faded fast. Gawain grabbed Dina's arm.
"Come. Just one more guard to get past and then we'll be at the tower."

Dina nodded. She felt for the hood and brought it back over her face.
"Got him in time." She said to him
