"Yes. It was the only thing to do," Gawain sighed.
They continued walking up to the tower where two more guards waited.
"Who are you?" The guard asked.
"I brought the princess back from the chapel," Gawain replied. "She wanted to pray."
"Liar! Princesses are both in the tower, with the king."
The men drew their swords and advanced on Gawain and Dina.

Dina pulled her hands out of the loosely tied rope and grabbed then first thing she could find, an arrow.
She glanced over to Gawain

Gawain drew his sword.

The remaining guard surrenders as he collapses on the ground, bloody and exhausted. Gawain looks no better as he stands over him. Still watching the guard, Gawain beckons Dina over.
"We'll have to tie him up or kill him," he told her.

Dina stood next to Gawain.
"I am sorry." She whispered to him. "Kill him."

Gawain thrust his sword through the man's throat so that his blood poured out fast and thick. Gawain looked like he wanted to collapse on the ground next to the dying man. Once the man was dead, Gawain turned to Dina.
"I think you'd best take his tunic. Then we will look as if we both belong when we go up the tower."

Dina nodded and pulled it off the man.
She put it on.
"You should stay here, I can go up." She said, looking at him concerned.

"Alone? I don't think so," he said. "Dina, the man we questioned said there would be a guard outside the princess' door. And the guard you killed a moment ago said Vortimer was with them, Can you deal with two men yourself, if you aren't stopped by somebody else on the way up? The princesses are at the top of the tower."

"And you are half dead Gawain." Dina shot back. "Give me your knife and I can always try and shot them first."

"I'm no use to anyone sitting out here," he grumbled. "Take my dagger, but I'm going with you."
He handed her the dagger.
"Help me prop these two up so they look as if they are still on duty."

Dina watched him carefully, then did as he had said.
"You are not to step in if I do run into trouble." She told him. "You are too hurt."

Gawain nodded and tried the door. It wasn't locked, He opened it slowly and beckoned Dina inside, closing the door after them.
"I know. I'm not so stupid as to charge into a fight unless I need to, not right now."
They were standing in a stairwell. It had a door which presumably led to the lower rooms of the tower but the staircase was clearly separate, which was to their advantage.
"Just remember you will only be able to shoot your bow downwards if we run into trouble on the stairs," he said. "You'll never manage to shoot up. Are you sure you want to go first?"

Dina smiled sweetly and nodded. She kissed him lightly on the cheek.
"I know your not, I just worry about you." She told him. "Do you want my bow?"

"Please," he said. "It makes more sense for me to have the bow if I am to go second. We'd best hurry though. Every second we wait is a greater chance of discovery."

Dina passed him the bow and her quiver. She started up the stairs clutching his knife.
