Geoffrey of Monmouth is there making his devotions. He is kneeling on a prayer cushion and mumbling the words to the Lord's Prayer.

The strict Christians of Camelot arrive nearly midnight to celebrate the midnight mass. Among them are Sansum, the Bishop of Camelot, who will officiate, Queen Igraine, Lord Bernard of Astolat and his daughter Elaine and Geoffrey of Monmouth.
A minute or so later, the knight Sir Sagramore swaggered into the room.

King Arthur arrived at the chapel. He came along with a solemn expression.

Sir Lancelot appeared in the hall and felt very out of place. He felt about as welcome there as he wanted to be there. He quickly looked around the room to try and find Elaine, the sooner he found her, the sooner he could sit down and pretend to be paying attention.

Elaine was sitting next to her father but she smiled brightly at Lancelot when he appeared. She was radiant, as if the vision of the Grail had elevated her to another place.
"Oh, Sir Lancelot, I felt as if an angel came upon us tonight! It was the best evening of my life. I am so pleased you came here instead of to the heretical fires outside the castle."

"As you say, my lady," he said with a pleasant smile as he bowed to her before looking at her father, "My Lord, may I have the honour of sitting next to your beautiful daughter?" He asked the man sitting next to Elaine, it seemed like the proper thing to do, and from what little he knew of Christians, they liked doing things in the proper way.

Sir Bernard was in his late forties, a strong man with brown hair and moustache touched with grey.
"You may, Sir Lancelot. My daughter spoke most highly of yourself and your brother."
"I did," Elaine giggled, then covered her mouth with her hand for a second before removing it and whispering to Lancelot. "Laughter in the house of the Lord is most wicked. I forgot! I feel like we are still in a dream, don't you?"

"I shall have to contain myself somehow then," He replied back to her with a wicked grin as he sat down next to her. He could not serious believe in a religion in which laughter was frowned upon, but he did not really see himself needing to suppress himself that much, he was predicting a dry event, "And yes, it was very interesting, though anything that heralds quests and glory is welcome to me."

"Oh, good! You will be riding out in the glory of God!" Elaine declared. "It's so exciting though I am not at all suited to going on a quest. I must stay behind, but I will give you my favour to wear if you like. Is your brother going?"

"I believe he is, though if he is as late as he is at arriving here he will miss all of the excitement." Lancelot said, with the kind of smile only teasing his brother ever brought him, "and I would be honoured to wear your favour, Galahad may be disappointed though."

"Do you think so?"
The young girl looked anxious.
"I could give him my favour too, if he wants it," she suggested. "I would so hate to disappoint anyone."

Lancelot actually had to suppress a mocking laugh at that, but just kept himself in check, "You should suggest it to him when he arrives, I think, it is unconventional but we are brothers, we were brought up sharing things."
