"Oh. The Lady Morgan frightens me a little. All magic does. I don't like to be near anyone with magic," Elaine confided. "Lady Morgause is the worst. She has lots of sly smiles and she looks at men in the most dreadful way. But that's not very interesting, I know. I am not brave, so I cannot go with you, but I will pray for you - every day - and for the King as well. I know everything will be alright with you to protect the king."

Galahad decided that now was probably not the time to mention his beating at the hands of the large bandit. "Yes, that is one of the reasons I am going. I have little faith in some of the other knights, they are far to easily distracted from their duty and have few morals." Galahad told her sadly.

"Truly? But why are they knights, then? I thought a man had to prove himself before he was allowed to be a knight?"
Elaine's face was the the picture of innocence. She had no idea how it really worked.

"Well, that is how it should work, but in practice things are not so perfect. Or so I've found." Galahad told her.

"But...if the King lets these men who are not perfect or honorable be knights, does that mean the King is not so perfect either?"
She spoke in a hushed whisper, realising that what she was saying was dangerous, though she was not sensible enough to know the word treason.

"Elaine, you mustn't say such things. The actions of his knights do reflect on the king, yet he is not fully responsible for them." Galahad replied even more quietly.

"But...then what can be done to make the knights more virtuous? I wish that everyone could be as good as you, Sir Galahad. Then the court would truly be perfect."
She smiled at him, all wide-eyed innocent.

"I wish more people were like me as well, but I suppose that if I am patient heaven will be a better reflection of how things should be." Galahad said, it was clear he'd already given this matter considerable thought.

"We must all strive to be worthy of Heaven," Elaine replied. "But I know you are, Sir Galahad. You are everything a knight should be. I wish...I wish only Christians could be knights, don't you?"

"Yes, that would be fitting. Pagans have no notion of chivalry or morality." Galahad agreed.

"It's strange because they aren#t godless. So I don't understand why their gods don't tell them to be good. They have more gods than we do."
She sighed and leaned close to him.
"It must have been awful for you that your mother is not a Christian lady."

"Yes, it was quite awful being the only non-pagan in Avalon. I thought that the men and women at Camelot would be much better people, being Christians, but for the most part they are almost as bad." Galahad said sadly. "As for their gods, quality is more important than quantity in most matters, and religion is no exception."
(OOC: Feel free to correct me if Galahad was not the only Christian in Avalon)

She touched his arm with timid fingers. Her fingers were light and delicate, very slender.
"Oh sir! How horrid. It seems like everywhere you go, you are so much better than everybody you meet. You must be so lonely?"
OOC - he was the only one, at least as far as he knows, but Glastonbury Abbey was nearby

Galahad normally would have stepped away, restoring an appropriate distance between them, but for some reason he could not explain, he did not do so.
"Yes, I suppose I am, but then it is better to be lonely than to mingle with those lesser than myself." He said, somewhat uncertainly.

"But...but...surely there must be somebody in this world that is worthy of your friendship?"
She leaned in closer still, unaware that she was doing it.
"I would like to be your friend. I am a Christian and I try so hard to be good and follow the laws of the kingdoms and the Ten Commandments."
