"Very little. I do know that they are Saxons. A few of my men heard them shouting in their foul tongue when they attempted to track them to their lair. One of the men has a Saxon mother, so he knew the tongue. It's likely that one of the Saxon kings sent them to attack us. They have been enemies of Dumnonia and the other southern kingdoms since before Uther's day. That is no secret. But I fear it will take cunning to defeat them, short of calling down a large force to massacre the bastards."

"Hmm. Yes, I found this coin." Galahad said, giving the coin to the Lord. "That as well would seem to indicate they are Saxon. But how exactly do you propose we defeat them if not through combat?"

"Perhaps we might fool them into believing they have been summoned elsewhere, even send them to the lands of our enemies? Or...trap them in their own lair. That would serve the mercenary bastards right. Or even...recruit them as our allies. The difficulty is. they must know what strength I have now and that I am not a wealthy man. But they do not know you."
He paused, considering.
"Would Arthur be inclined to recruit such men to his forces? He is too young to have experienced war against the Saxons."

"I...I think not." Galahad said, unsure what Arthur would do. "I would not, but I will not be the one to decide their fate. We must capture them and bring them before Arthur and let him decide what is to be done with them."

"Capture them? I fear there might be too many of them for that," the lord sighed. "May I ask how it is that you are here? Do you know any of the local lords?"

"I am scouting ahead of a group of my fellow knights." Galahad replied. "Unfortunately we cannot seek their aid, as I was given explicit orders not to confront the bandits. However as the orders were given by both a pagan and a woman, I am willing to...bend them, maintaining the kings justice is of the greatest import of course. Why if I was to accidentally ride past a group of bandits and they were to attack me, I am sure Lady Morgan would understand if I defended myself."

"I am sure she would," the lord agreed. "The Lady Morgan, you said? King Arthur's own sister. Surely she understands the demands of chivalry?"

"From what I have seen, not at all." Galahad shook his head sadly. "Additionally many of the knights riding with her are also pagans, and I wonder how reliable some of them truly are."

"I have no problem with pagans but their rules are different to ours," the lord said. "Even though chivalry should be for all knights no matter their faith. 'Tis a pity the Lady is not here now. We could use her powers to hide us as we attack the bandits Could you not ask them for help?."

"If I did, you would no doubt lose my services, so that does not seem like the route we should follow." Galahad replied.

The lord nodded.
"As you wish, Sir Galahad. My men did find the bandits' lair. Would you care to take a look?"

"I would like to very much." Galahad smiled.

"I will send half a dozen with you but I cannot spare more. I believe the bandits attack the village with the intention of making me weaken my forces here. The castle is a richer prize, after all. I will not lose it."

"That seems reasonable to me." Galahad agreed. "I shall try to find out more about these bandits."

"Stay and eat, drink a tankard of ale if you please. My men can be ready to go shortly if you wish."
